1974 Spider - Verde Inglese (green). This is a well-maintained car with a few tasteful upgrades. For many Alfa enthusiasts, ‘74 was the last good year, before Alfa was forced to go to rubber bumpers and decrease its horsepower due to regulations.
The car was purchased in 1997 by a respected member of Alfa Owners of New England who had a total mechanical rebuild performed as well as many other upgrades that make this car a joy to drive. He invested about $30,000 in the car over 23 years. Paperwork of all improvements and repairs are available. I bought the car in July 2019 and have invested about $4,500 on new tires, replaced the battery, installed 4 new red Koni shocks and new springs, and commissioned some other minor cosmetic repairs. The car is inspected, cleaned, and season ready. Current odometer reading 145,000. This car runs great and starts immediately, it has never let me down.
History
1997 - Car purchased by previous owner, odometer reading 106,973. The engine was rebuilt by Ellis Imports in Southborough (Chuck Ellis and Paul Glynn are experts and used to work together on Gaston Andrey’s crew back in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s when Gaston was running in the Trans-Am series with under 2.0-liter Alfas). They put in high lift cams, 10:1 pistons and variable valve timing. They also had the head polished and ported to accommodate these changes.
1999 - The Spica pump was sent out to Wes Ingram in California who exchanged it for a pump that he had rebuilt with a slightly hotter street profile; that, together with a new thermostatic actuator, really made the car perform.
2000 - New floors and metal in the front rocker panels (sills) with touch-up to the paintwork. And the top was replaced with a Robbins Stay-Fast top.
2001 - Upgraded the standard rims to Panasport wheels.
2010 - Rebuilt both front seats and changed from black to red Italian vinyl.
2011 - Exchanged the 4:56 rear gear ratio differential for one with 4:10. This made a good difference for road driving, as each gear now had a little more mph in it, dropping the rpms by about 400-500 at 70 mph.
2012 - Installed a Ward & Deane suspension (shocks and springs), a chassis stiffener bar system, which greatly reduced scuttle (cowl) shake.
2019 - Installed a new head gasket, and a new exhaust manifold gasket. Replacement of the lower radiator hose.
2019 - Car purchased by current owner, odometer reading 142,692.
2020 - Regular annual maintenance and replaced the battery (Optima RedTop) and put on 4 new General AltiMAX RT43 tires. Changed the lower part of the exhaust and improved the wiring.
2021 - Regular annual maintenance and replaced the door-straps.
2022 - Regular spring maintenance and brought the drive height back to standard specs by installing 4 new Red Koni Shocks with standard springs, and added a sump, oil-pan guard.
$15,500 firm. Will be more on BaT but I'd rather see it go to a home in New England. Robert Rook, Charlestown (Boston) MA, rook4me@gmail.com, 317-828-9009 (4/22)
