THIS YEAR’S MOVIE NIGHT was at a new (for us) venue: the Capitol Theater in Arlington, Massachusetts. This venerable old theater has been a landmark in Arlington for over a century and now includes a smaller screening room with 50 seats, which turned out to be perfect for our event. The quality of the picture and sound is what you would expect from a professional theater, and we even got our own projectionist. Not only that, but there is a gourmet pizza shop next door and the theater serves wine, beer, soft drinks, and snacks in addition to Richardson’s Ice Cream. Director and Treasurer Peter Walker did a great job organizing the pizzas.
Members began arriving at 6:45 and we had a very enjoyable pizza social before the feature began at 7:30. It was great to see old and new friends and catch up on news of Winter projects and plans for the new year.
The movie was F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt and co-produced with seven-time F1 World Champion Louis Hamilton. Without delivering a full review, I would just say that the cinematic quality was superb, the accuracy of the driving and cars was above average for the genre, and the story was aimed at a wide audience with typical Hollywood drama. In other words, lots of flashy action but not too much depth or character development. All of the filming was done on location at actual tracks and featured real F1 drivers and teams making cameo appearances. Louis Hamilton is promising a sequel.
All in all, a very enjoyable evening!
