Thursday, August 14
PLAN TO JOIN US for a leisurely cruise in our Alfas along the twisty roads and through historic New England neighborhoods, with rugged seacoast views of Cape Anne. We’ll stop for photo opportunities along the way at Bass Rocks and enjoy ‘lobster in the rough’ at the Lobster Pool Restaurant on Folly Cove in Rockport.
We will conclude our rambling at the Gloucester Maritime Museum, where we will board the Pinky Schooner Ardelle for a sunset sail around Gloucester Harbor. Captain and master shipwright Harold Burnam will entertain us with his insights and stories about shipbuilding and sailing.
We will meet at the Beverly Service Plaza on Route 128 (see Map & Directions above) at 2:30PM on Thursday, August 14th, and depart at 3:00PM, traveling 30 miles through Wenham, Hamilton, Essex, Rockport, and Gloucester.
We’ll be boarding the Ardelle at 6:00PM and return to shore at approximately 8:00PM. AONE has chartered the Ardelle and we have a capacity of 49 persons. To offset the cost of the charter, we are requesting a $20 per sailor fee. This represents a substantial discount from the normal cost of $45.
Realizing that not all members may be able to take a weekday afternoon away from responsibilities, you do not have to ramble to sail! You (and your friends and family) can just come for the sailing portion of the event. Meet on the dock behind the Gloucester Maritime Museum (map here) at 5:45PM.
Deadline for signups is August 12th. Please email or call Greg Stidsen at gregorystidsen@gmail.com or 978-884-8617. Be sure to state whether you’ll be driving and sailing or just sailing (or just driving).
Note: Rockport is a ‘dry’ town, so you can BYOB to the restaurant if you please. The Ardelle has a cash bar and you cannot BYOB on board.
