IMPORTANT TECH TIP FOR 2017 TO 2025 GIULIAS AND STELVIOS (2.0L)
Ground Strap Replacement
The major grounding point for the front wiring harness can become corroded over time, causing the wiring harness to overheat and become damaged (melted). If this occurs, it can lead to a very expensive wiring harness replacement (over $10K to replace, parts and labor). DON’T WAIT!
Fortunately, the fix is easy and relatively inexpensive. Alfa has developed a newer style ground strap that prevents the problem from occurring and offers improved corrosion protection for the future. The revised part is Part No. 68648999AA (MSRP $114.60 part only). The new piece has a protective covering over it to limit premature corrosion (see photo below).
The heavy gauge flexible link is located between the transmission and chassis toward the middle of the car on the driver’s side at the rear of the transmission.
Important: The battery must be disconnected before removing the old link and replacing it with the new link.
Note: Quadrifoglio models do have an uncoated ground strap as well, but because they are generally not driven as much in inclement weather and on salty roads, we have not seen the same level of corrosion or failure on them).
