AROC-NJ Fall Foliage Tour

Saturday, October 2nd

The AROC-NJ chapter has invited us to take part in their annual Fall Foliage Tour.  Here's a message from AROC-NJ's Scott Klion:

On Saturday, October 2, I will once again be hosting the annual AROC-NJ Hudson Valley Fall Foliage Tour. I invite you to come along for this year's event.

To keep things fresh, we are leaving the Port Jervis area, having spent the last two years there, and will be returning to the Southern Catskills. Consequently, we will be starting a bit farther north than where we did last year and the year before. Instead of Sloatsburg, we will be staging from a diner located at the Route 17K exit off I-84 (about five minutes from the intersection of I-84 and I-87 in Newburgh).

Highlights this year will include a visit to two farm stands in Gardiner (Wright's and Tantillo's) for fresh applies, jams and pies, lunch and a bit of poking around in Phoenicia, a pit stop at Steve Heller’s Fabulous Furniture on 28 in Boiceville, a little shopping and schmoozing around High Falls, wine tasting at Baldwin Vineyards in Pine Bush, and, of course, the traditional closing dinner at Lombardi’s, also in Gardiner.

There will be new roads and hence new opportunities for both spirited driving and scenic cruising. To keep the day manageable (and not overwhelm roads, towns, or our scheduled lunch spot), I have decided to impose a limit of 16 cars (not including my car or the support vehicle) for this and future tours. These 16 spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will also be a limit of 20 for dinner, which will begin at 6:30 pm. These spots, too, will be set aside on a first-come, first-served basis.

Finally, the winery - which usually closes at 5 pm - graciously agreed to stay open an extra hour just for us. But we need to guarantee them a minimum of 15 tasters (at $7 per person) to make it worth their while.

So, if you wish to participate, please let me know:

  • How many there will be in your car (to help the restaurant in Phoenicia plan for our lunch)

  • How many in your car will be participating in the wine tasting

  • How many in your car will be staying for dinner
