A few Alfas that had "Run When Parked"

I am sure that there are many members of Alfa Owners of New England who are already aware of Classic Motorsports magazine and are also subscribers to this absolutely fantastic publication. Yours truly has been a frequent contributor (almost every issue for the last three years or so) to the magazine’s popular "Ran When Parked" section, in which photos of vintage and classic cars that have been abandoned, usually in very unique locations, are published (see the examples).

For those AONE members who do not subscribe to this publication, or every other month go to Borders or Barnes & Noble to read it for free while sipping on a cup of cappuccino, you really must do so, as there are often numerous articles on Alfas within its pages. Such is the case with the latest issue (#142, January 2010), which contains lots of tidbits and photos on Alfas, along with a very interesting article by Andy Reid detailing his trek this year from Chicago to the Monterey Classics — in his newly-acquired gorgeous red (has to be RED) 1986 Alfa GTV-6.

Periodically, Classic Motorsports takes on a "Project Car" and restore and/or prep it for race or rallye competition, over the course of a number of issues. As a matter of fact, a number of years ago they did so with a GTV-6, and I incorporated a lot of the mods that they did into my old GTV-6 race car that I used to run in the Mt. Washington SCCA Pro Rallye event (see photos).

Here, then, is a top secret tip! It seems that, more and more, the crew down there at Classic’s Ormond Beach headquarters (near Daytona), who have always had a leaning toward them there "Brit" kinds of cars, are discovering Alfas! As such, starting very shortly in an upcoming issue of Classic Motorsports, they will be taking on a late model Alfa Spider "Project Car". What will be done and to what extent, along with how many issues will be devoted to this project, at this time I do not know. (The projects usually run 6 to 9 issues and Classic Motorsports is an every-other-month publication, with their other magazine, Grassroots Motorsports, published in between.)

So, again, I would strongly suggest, especially with the long New England Winter months ahead of us, which create a need for good reading material in front of the fireplace, that Classic Motorsports magazine be added to your subscription list ASAP. Or, at the very least, make it a ritual, as previously suggested, of going to Borders or Barnes & Noble for a cup of cappuccino and reading it there!Tiny Quadrifoglio
