april showers? Not for this club! The second annual AONE South Shore Beach & Waterfront Tour ran again in picture-perfect top-down weather! Ten Alfas and a couple of lesser cars gathered on the morning of Saturday, April 19th, with scenic Hingham Harbor as a backdrop. Event organizer (and AONE President) Tom Lesko and his wife Kathi were there to greet us with warm handshakes, but more importantly with a table on which hot coffee and warm muffins were set up. The Alfisti rolled in one by one until we reached a healthy quorum. Besides Tom and his gray ’65 Spider Veloce "Grumpy" were Anthony Cocuzzo and his son Michael in their white ’90 Spider; Doug Sondak in his gray ’69 rountail Spider; Rod Burdick in his red ’63 Giulia Spider; Myron Barnett and his sons Philip and Ethan in their gray ’88 Milano Verde; John & Lauren DeWaele in their green ’74 Spider; Greg & Andrea Stidsen in their burgundy ’74 GTV; Mark Ziburis in his red ’92 Spider; Dan Nicholes in his red ’67 Duetto; Dave Pratt in his red ’61 Giulietta Spider; Joe Fenstermaker in a lesser car but rode with Dave; and Peter Walker in a lesser car but rode with Tom. All in all, our usual varied assortment that spanned over thirty years of Alfa production! Having infused ourselves with sugar and caffeine, we held a quick drivers meeting and Tom gave us maps of the anticipated route. We then hit the road, with Tom, Peter, and Grumpy in the lead. All of the foldable tops were dropped. Our tour directors had again laid out a most scenic and pleasurable drive for us. The itinerary took us to Nantasket and Hull beaches, Cohasset’s gold coast (where some crazily extravagant homes can be viewed), Cohasset and Back Harbors, and on to Minot Beach and the Minot lighthouse. We then motored into Scituate Harbor, and took a swing by the Scituate lighthouse. We carried on to Peggoty Beach, and then looped back around to Scituate Harbor. It was here that we broke for lunch at the Mill Wharf Restaurant, on the water overlooking the harbor, with fishing boats, lobster traps, buoys, piers, and seagulls affording us a scenic seaside repast. We had ourselves a leisurely and enjoyable lunch at the same spot we dined at last year, and everyone agreed that the Mill Wharf was again an excellent choice. Afterward, Tom had some more motor touring in mind, so we saddled up and fell back into formation. After absorbing more of the gorgeous South Shore coast and bracing ocean air, we ended up back in Hingham Harbor, where Peter and Joe had left their lesser cars. With smiles all around, we bid our farewells and headed off homeward. Thanks again to Tom & Kathi Lesko for
giving AONE a great start to our driving season! Come on down to the South
Shore next year when we make it three for three!
