at press time, with a week left in January, it’s not looking like a January Thaw Tour is likely to transpire. So let’s improvise—we’ll do it in February!
We all know that, with the wintery weather we’ve been having this year, it’s hard to think about driving our Alfas any time soon, but it can happen! We oftentimes get a perfect weekend day for driving in the dead of winter, and if/when that happens some Saturday or Sunday this year, we’re going to be ready for it! The AONE February Thaw Tour is an excuse to get our Alfas out and give ‘em a little mid-winter exercise. A chance to drive some scenic roads you’ve perhaps never been on before. Perhaps a little fun to boot, in the form of a simple gimmick rally. And an opportunity to have lunch at the end with a bunch of your Alfa pals. The January Thaw Tours we’ve run in the past have been up along Boston’s North Shore, where we took advantage of the natural beauty of the New England coastline north of Boston. Last year, we had a nice turnout on a beautiful Sunday and had a great time, and this year will be no exception! Peter Walker, Meg Anderson, and Tom Ducibella have scouted out a route that is about 55 miles long and takes about two hours. It starts in North Beverly (see the directions below), goes all over Cape Anne, and ends up in Rockport, where we’ll be able to have lunch at the Greenery restaurant. Afterward, people can either head right back to Route 128 or take the more scenic coastal road from Gloucester to Manchester and Beverly before rejoining 128.
The info regarding our starting time and other last-minute details will be sent to you via email as soon as we’ve determined that a thaw is about to occur. (If you’re not receiving our occasional emails, dash off a note to webmaster@velocissima.com.) Don’t worry—it won’t be held on the day that the Pats win the Super Bowl! Although this is an AONE event, if you
don’t want to bring your Alfa out of hibernation, it’s okay to bring a
Lesser Car. After all, our club is about Alfisti as well as Alfas! Contact

with any questions. Hope to see lots of you this year—it’s a great therapy
for Alfa withdrawal! Directions to the start: We’ll congregate at the Starbucks on the right-hand side of Route 1-A north (Dodge Street) in North Beverly. To get there, take Exit 20 off of Route 128. This exit is marked "Route 1-A North." At the end of the exit ramp, turn right to head north on Route 1-A. (Don’t take the exit ramp for Route 1-A South toward the center of Beverly.) Continue north about 0.7 or 0.8 mile. The Starbucks will be on the right in a small strip mall where there is also a Bertucci’s. The North Beverly commuter rail station and the Depot Diner are on the right just before the Starbucks.
