Yes, it’s party time again! Everyone had such a great time at our holiday bash at Larz Anderson in December that we’re all fired up for the next one! Namely, we’re talking about our annual mid-winter AONE Pot Luck Dinner Party that will be held the evening of Saturday, February 2nd, at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, the scene of many such AONE affairs over the years. It’s a cozy, old, comfortable, wood-paneled, centrally-located venue that’s perfect for our gathering—no other place comes close!

As is our wont, the dinner will again be pot luck, since this always works so well for us. You Alfisti never fail to please the palate, with the delectable assortment of food that you bring each year! So if you make a special dish (or can talk your significant other into making one for you), pack it up for Weston! This is an Italian car club, so Italian food is generally a central theme, but it really doesn’t matter. Entrees, salads, breads, desserts—whatever gets your culinary juices flowing! There’s a kitchen available to warm things up.

Entertainment? We sent out a query to the AONE Directors for ideas on coming up with a guest speaker, but nothing really surfaced. However, we think we know the reason, and it’s that we tend to entertain ourselves so well that none is necessary! So there won’t be anything formal, but we’ll prepare a slide show highlighting photos from our club’s 2007 event season, and maybe pause it now and then to gab about the things that happened. We did this a couple of years ago, and it was much fun!

And, in any case, we have to remember that … it’s a party! The club will be supplying soft drinks, but if you prefer something a little more fortifying, feel free to bring your own. And don’t forget the door prizes! There will be lots of them, and you’re more than likely to go home with some sort of Alfa-oriented trinket or treasure!

We’ll be kicking things off at 6 pm. Don’t forget your significant other—we’ll endeavor to keep the tech talk as minimal as possible. Dress is casual. Alas, President Tom Lesko won’t be attending this year due to a previous engagement (with a scalpel), and we all wish him well. The good news is that we won’t have to tolerate his operatic music collection.

Directions to the Josiah Smith Tavern

• From the East: Take Route 128 (I-95) to the Weston/Route 20 exit (Exit 26). Follow Route 20 west for 1.2 miles until you reach the first set of lights. Take a right onto School Street, and travel one block to the town center. Take a left, and the tavern is a white clapboard building on the left.

• From the West: Take Route 20 east. One-half mile past the Weston Police Station, you will reach a set of lights. Take a left onto School Street, and travel one block to the town center. Take a left, and the tavern is a white clapboard building on the left.

The AONE Winter Party has become a revered institution, and we often get 40 or 50 revelers, sometimes more. It makes for a great way to break up the winter, and gives us faith that Alfa driving season can’t be far off. Don’t miss this year’s hullabaloo!
