most of us don’t drive our Alfas in the winter, but we can still party! Everyone had a great time at our holiday bash at Larz Anderson in December, and now it’s time to start planning the next one! That, in fact, would be our annual mid-winter AONE Pot Luck Dinner Party that will be held the evening of Saturday, February 2nd, at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, the scene of many an AONE affair over the years. It’s a cozy, old, comfortable, wood-paneled, centrally-located venue that’s perfect for our gathering—no other place comes close!

As is our delectable habit, the dinner will again be pot luck, since this always works so well for us. You Alfisti never fail to delight, with the mouth-watering array of food that you bring each year! So if you make a special dish (or can talk your significant other into making one for you), transport it to Weston! This is an Italian car club, so Italian food is generally a central theme, but it really doesn’t matter. Entrees, salads, breads, desserts—whatever tickles your taste buds! There’s a kitchen available to warm things up.

At press time, we haven’t yet decided on the after-dinner entertainment (it will not include a cheesy piano player), but rest assured that we’ll come up with something that will interest (if not enthrall) you. If you come to the Winter Party for the entertainment [personally, I come for the food—Ed.], keep an eye on this web page, which we’ll update when the details get finalized.

But the main thing to remember is … that it’s a party! The club will be supplying soft drinks, but if you prefer something a little more fortifying, feel free to bring your own. And don’t forget the door prizes! There will be lots of them, and you’re more than likely to go home with some sort of Alfa-oriented trinket or treasure!

Directions to the Josiah Smith Tavern

• From the East: Take Route 128 (I-95) to the Weston/Route 20 exit (Exit 26). Follow Route 20 west for 1.2 miles until you reach the first set of lights. Take a right onto School Street, and travel one block to the town center. Take a left, and the tavern is a white clapboard building on the left.

• From the West: Take Route 20 east. One-half mile past the Weston Police Station, you will reach a set of lights. Take a left onto School Street, and travel one block to the town center. Take a left, and the tavern is a white clapboard building on the left.

The AONE Winter Party has become a cherished institution, and we often get 40 or 50 revelers, sometimes more. It makes for a great way to break up the winter, and gives us faith that Alfa season can’t be far away. Don’t miss this year’s cold-weather fling!
