the details are in! AONE members and Peterborough, NH, residents John Percival and Guilherme Bonatto have teamed up again to put together another fabulous motor tour in the Monadnock region of southern New Hampshire. Last year, we had 23 Alfas come along on the drive, up from 18 the year before! The participants all had a terrific time on a tour that included quiet back roads, a stop for lunch, a couple of Alfa photo ops, a little shopping, more back roads, some historic landmarks, country estates, a Velocissima cover page picture at the McDowell Dam, horse farms, and finally a stop for ice cream.

And this year Guilherme and John are planning an even better, expanded Giro! We’re talking more back-roads driving at the beginning of the day, and gathering in Peterborough for an afternoon segment going to Henniker, NH, for lunch at Daniel’s Restaurant & Pub. And that will be followed by more touring up in the Lake Sunapee region!

You have two options for meeting up with the rest of the gang:

1. If you live in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island, you can meet up with Guilherme just before our 9:00 am departure at Papa Razzi Ristorante’s parking lot in Concord, MA (located on Route 2 westbound, just before the Concord Rotary). We will take a very pleasant route via 119/111 through Acton, with a 10-15 minute pit stop at a Dunkin Donuts at the 225/119 intersection. Past Groton, we’ll take 111 and then 122 north up into Hollis, past the 130 intersection, right on South Merrimack, back to 122, and onto Ponemah Hill Road (a scenic back road around Milford). We’ll then connect back to 101 west of Wilton and drive into Peterborough, with a quick parade downtown, arriving at around 10:30-10:45. Once we’re there, we again have two options:

a) Those who want to stay in Peterborough for some leisurely strolls, be our guests and meet us again just before our departure at 12:15 from Peterborough Plaza (gather between 11:45 and 12:00). You can go to the Depot Square area of downtown, a destination spot for the Monadnock region. Depot Square is framed by the confluence of two rivers in the center of Peterborough. It provides an attractive setting for the Sharon Art Gallery plus several fine restaurants and clothing boutiques.

b) The diehard Alfa driving maniacs and their macchine will follow Guilherme on a loop around Dublin and back into Peterborough from the northwest, over delightful roads that have become the trademark of Il Giro. This group will rejoin the gathering at Peterborough Plaza and will depart at 12:15 for the Capitolo PoMeridio (the afternoon portion).

2. Or, if you live further north, you can go directly to the parking area of Peterborough Plaza. This is the same gathering spot as in previous years. Again, you have two options:

a) Meet the southern contingent at around 10:30 am and either stroll the town for a while or join Guilherme on the Dublin loop.

b) Arrive between 11:45 and 12:00 for departure to Henniker at 12:15.

Directions: From the east: Take NH Route 101 to Peterborough. Past the intersection with Route 123, Peterborough Plaza will be on your left, after the bridge. From the south: Take US Route 202 north past Jaffrey to Peterborough. Turn right at a traffic light onto 101 heading east. Peterborough Plaza will be on your right. From the west: Take Route 9 east, which becomes 101 east in Keene. Stay on 101 to Peterborough, straight through a set of lights (at intersection with 202 South). Peterborough Plaza will be on your right.

Departing from Peterborough Plaza at 12:15, our lunch destination will be Daniel’s in Henniker, NH, and lunch is scheduled for 1:00 pm. Afterward, we’ll head north on 114, onto 103, and through Newbury Station. We’ll take 103B from the rotary at the Sunapee Park entrance and drive to the intersection with 11 (this segment alone is worth the day!). Finally, we’ll take Main Street toward Sunapee Harbor, where the tour will wind down around 4:00 pm. Here, we can walk by the dockside or gather for some ice cream, shopping, or refreshments. Schedule a stay overnight somewhere nearby, if possible, or return home after a memorable day with Alfa Romeos and Alfisti in New Hampshire.

In order to keep things under control, our tourmasters are limiting the event to the first 30 cars to sign up—first come, first served! We’ve made the best arrangements possible for the crisp and shining weather that Il Giro participants have become used to. Contact an Alfa friend and ask them to join, too!

Important: We must give Daniel’s a head count, so we will need you to register with Guilherme by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 3rd, with the exact number of reservations. To register, contact Guilherme at 603-924-7608 (home), 603-860-9705 (cell), or preferably via email at bellunotre@gmail.com. If you call and get a message, please leave your name and number so that Guilherme can return your call to confirm your entry. Include your phone number and your plan about where you will join the group. Please indicate how many of you will be joining us for lunch at Daniel’s and give us your lunch selections (Portabella Tuscan Tower, Fish and Chips, or Chicken Teriyaki) by Wednesday, October 3rd, as Guilherme and John need to provide the count to the restaurant! And do it now so you don’t end up on the waiting list!

So reserve Saturday, October 6th (rain date Sunday, the 7th), on your calendars and sign up pronto! There will be maps posted on the AONE web site the week before the event. See you there!Tiny Quadrifoglio
