Friday is a day full of participatory driving events for cars of all kinds, plus a Concours de Elegance, and laps of the old course. The “flagship” event, Glenora Run, limits entries to 130 cars over 25 years old; the Knapp Winery Roadster Rallye is open only to convertibles and roadsters; the Pleasant Valley Founder’s Tour has flexible entry requirements; and the GlenKhana is a parking-lot-sized obstacle course that is just loads of fun (entries are limited to first 20). All participating cars are displayed downtown after their laps of the original course. On Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th are the SVRA Vintage Races at the track, which is a major take-in with many different classes competing wheel-to-wheel, and the Collier Cup. There will also be many vendors from all over the country to tug at your purse-strings, plus a classic car show. As if all of this weren’t enough to give you a total overdose of your favorite obsession, the picture-perfect setting of Watkins Glen, crammed with old (and not so old) sports cars and racers, beautiful twisty roads dotted with wineries, lakes, and waterfalls make for a combination sure to overload your senses. If your Alfa is interested in caravanning out to Watkins Glen on Thursday morning with a bunch of other Alfas, contact Kevin Murphy at kevin@kmurphyslaw.com or 508-879-1881 to find out how to hook up.
The Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival is a terrific weekend of vintage racing and
other forms of celebration, all held in historic Watkins Glen, NY. Attendance
will be high and accommodations are filling up fast, so check out the contact
info below and make your plans! Last-minute note from Kevin: All Stone Bridge driving events are full as of August 25! This means that, if you waited until now, it's too late (but contact the chairs of the different runs anyway in case they have a cancellation). It also means that this is going to be one heckuva year, with at least 400 sports cars converging on the Glen to participate in all of the Stone Bridge driving events - a feast for the eyes (but maybe a slower pace on the old circuit due to the large turnout - we'll see - maybe they'll be telling us to go fast to get through;). See you there - and don't forget to contact me if you want to caravan out. Watkins Glen Contact Info
