Mount Washington Vintage Hillclimb

Saturday & Sunday, July 22-23

An event that several AONE members took in last year is the Mount Washington "Climb to the Clouds" Vintage Hillclimb weekend. The reports that came back were quite positive, so let’s do it again! The festivities include vintage racing, mountain views, classic car shows, and driving tours all rolled into one. The happening has quickly gotten to be so popular that the organizers, the VSCCA, have made it an annual affair. The action takes place at the base of the Mount Washington Auto Road, just north of Jackson, NH on Route 16. Check out the Climb to the Clouds web site.

Those who went last year had a blast seeing the vintage hillclimbers (including club Director Steve Silverstein) challenge the Mountain, and the old car show at the base. After the event on Sunday afternoon, there are self-guided driving tours to collaborate on. Meanwhile, bring the entire family, as the activities back in the valley are tons of fun (Alpine slides, water parks, outlet shopping and train rides).

Accommodations are on your own, but there are many motels, inns and resorts in the area. Check the New Hampshire Tourism web site for lodging or camping info. Kevin Murphy is booked at the Grand Summit Lodge (800-223-7669) on Route 302 in Bartlett, an inn where we Alfisti can all hang out together, so contact him at  kevin@kmurphyslaw.com or 508-879-1881 for info on getting hooked up with that. We'll pick a good spot for dinner together on Saturday evening.

As a club, we will be meeting on Saturday morning around 9 am at the base parking area (ask where the Alfas are) and following the program described below. Let Kevin Murphy know if you plan to attend, and the day you plan to arrive (some of us are going up on Friday, the 21st).

  • On Saturday, the VSCCA Vintage Hillclimb practice will run in the morning. Saturday also features the AACA Granite Region Vintage Car Exhibition starting in the morning and running all day.

  • On Sunday morning, the VSCCA Vintage Hillclimb will take place. There will also be White Mountain Driving Tours ongoing throughout the day, and we will be joining up with them.

News flash: The event organizer at Mount Washington has informed us that we need to register (cost $15) either online (see the Climb to the Clouds web site) or at the Mountain check-in booth to participate in the Sunday tours (and maybe get a poster or T-shirt). Also, there is a "cruise-in" at Jackson on Sunday that is free to everyone. They will pre-register us if we can give her an estimate of how many are coming, so let Kevin know!

So pack up the kids (optional) and your bathing suits (optional) and head to New Hampshire! If you’re looking for a great summer weekend outing in your Alfa, this is a fine choice!Tiny Quadrifoglio
