Safety
Equipment Seminar
Attention all drivers and racers!
The New England Triumphs club, with whom we’ve shared several events in the past, has invited us to participate in a Safety Equipment Seminar with Joe Marko of HMS Motorsport. It’s particularly for those interested in racing, but all are welcome to learn more about driving safety.
HMS
Motorsport (www.hmsmotorsport.com)
is located in Peabody, MA and there’s lots of free parking. The seminar will
start at 11 am, but people are encouraged to arrive anytime after 10 am to see
some of the displays beforehand. The seminar will include discussions of seats,
harnesses, helmets and rollbars. It will include some video on sled tests. Joe
will also cover instructions for proper installation of safety equipment, and
end with a Q&A.
Joe is well qualified to give us a great seminar. He is a member of the SCCA National Safety Advisory Council—a group of six people who advise the competition committee on safety issues. He is in charge of "interiors"—belts, helmets, head & neck restraints, window nets, etc. Hare are some of his credentials:
SCCA ProRacing - Author of the 2005 General Competition Rules - Seatbelt and head & neck restraint sections. Also presented a two-hour "Safety and Installation Seminar" for World Challenge Drivers and Crew Chiefs.
ASA Late Modifieds - Assistance in writing 2006 harness belt regulations.
BMW CCA - Author for the 2006 General Competition Rules - all driver safety related equipment.
Boston Chapter BMW CCA - Director, Co-Chair for Drivers Schools, Past President
NASCAR - Worked directly with 19 NEXTEL Cup drivers/teams on the installation of harness belts. Introduced two new belt technologies to NASCAR - HANS specific shoulder belt & "double-belt". Involved in numerous tests with NASCAR at the Delphi Automotive Sled Test Lab in Ohio.
The Triumph club decided that people were more likely to be
driving or racing in season, and that this time would be better for a seminar.
It also should allow folks time to install whatever equipment they decide on
before the season begins. Thanks to Greg Elevich and New England Triumphs for
the invite!![]()
