Western Massachusetts Fall Foliage Tour
(a.k.a. the AONE Indian Summer Sortie)
Saturday, November 5

Okay, it's on!!! The forecast for Saturday calls for dry roads, partly sunny skies, and temperatures in the upper sixties—in November, we can't ask for anything better than that! So the AONE Fall Foliage Tour (a.k.a. the AONE Indian Summer Sortie) is set to roll this Saturday, November 5th! You can count on a fun frolic through the hills of Western Massachusetts surrounded by our beautiful New England autumn foliage, which is turning colors quite late this year so there should be plenty left to enjoy. Peter Walker’s promising us an interesting, scenic, trafficless, twisty route through the falling leaves. Here's the scoop:

We're going to meet up at the Fillin' Station Diner in South Deerfield, the same place we've started our tours a couple of times in the past. Plan to be there at 10:30am, because we're going to shove off promptly at 11:00, and finding us will be difficult after that. From there, we'll head out on our Sortie, which will be a marvelous back-roads romp that'll take about two hours, perhaps a little more. We'll end up in Shelburne Falls, a scenic town with several restaurants we can choose from for lunch. We can then decide what we want to do from there, either separately or collectively. Shelburne Falls is just off Route 2, so simply heading back to civilization from there is an option.

This could be the last chance this year for good fling with your fellow Alfisti, so don't miss it! See you Saturday!Tiny Quadrifoglio

Maps and Directions:

How to find the Fillin' Station: From any direction, take I-91 to Exit 24 for South Deerfield. Head south on US Route 5 (left at the end of the ramp if coming from the south, right if from the north). Look for a big DINER sign a short distance on the left. You can't miss it—here's what it looks like:

Italian Car Tech Session in Stamford, CT
Sunday, November 13

The Northeast Coast Chapter of Fiat Lancia Unlimited (FLU) will sponsor a free Technical Session and Social Gathering of Italian car owners on Sunday, November 13 beginning at 11:00 am at Expert Auto Repair, 480 West Main Street (Route 1), at the corner of West Avenue, in Stamford, CT. Coffee and donuts will be waiting for your arrival.

This is the fourth year of FLU's sponsorship of this event. Last year, 21 owners of Fiats, Lancias, Alfas and Ferraris attended. This event is not for the do-it-yourselfers only. Even if a mechanic does all your work, this session can help you communicate with him.

Joe Magnifico of Expert Auto and Danny O'Donnell of Fun Imported Auto and Toys will demonstrate and explain such things as the installation/replacement of brakes, ball joints, flex joints, electronic ignition pick-ups; valve adjustments and preparing your car for Winter storage. For the demonstrations, Joe and Danny will accept a volunteered car from the participants.

For lunch, the group will order pizza and share the cost. There will be plenty of time to meet the other Italian car owners and look at each other's cars. Feel free to bring some spare parts that you wish to sell. If time and weather permits, there'll be a drive through the back roads of Stamford and Greenwich.

Directions: Expert Auto Repair is located at the corner of West Main Street and West Avenue. Enter the shop from the rear parking lot, off of West Avenue.

You do not need to be a member of FLU to participate. To help plan for this event, please RSVP by contacting Tim Beeble at TBeeble@aol.com or 203-743-4954. On the day of the event, you can reach Tim on his cell phone at 203-241-0761.

AONE Year-End Wrap-up Meeting
Sunday, December 11

Please note the revised date! Owen O'Leary's Pub in Southboro, MA has been chosen as the site of our AONE Year-End Wrap-up Meeting on Sunday, December 11th from 12:30 to whenever. We'll have our own room for the affair, so 1) we won't be bothered by cheering football fans, and/or 2) we can sneak out periodically to check the score of the Pats game.

If you're bothered that Owen O'Leary's name is Irish and not Italian, you may pretend that it's called "Orlando Oleri's" if you choose. And you may also pretend that the shamrocks in the logo are actually quadrifoglios. In any case, it's a casual place with good pub food at reasonable prices—and they brew their own beer! [No, I'm not the guy who chose the place. —Ed.] The restaurant has a modest web site at www.owenolearys.com.

The main reason for the get-together is ... to get together! But it'll also give us a chance to collectively reflect on our club's 2005 activities, with an eye toward 2006's. Let's talk over what we liked best about the things we did this year, maybe add some new ideas, and come up with some goals for next spring!

So that we can give the pub an approximate head count, please contact Kevino Murfi at kevin@kmurphyslaw.com or 508-879-1881 to let him know that you're coming. Thanks!

Directions: Owen O'Leary's is located on Route 9 eastbound on the Southboro/Framingham line. (Note: This is not the pub's Natick location!) The address is 50 Turnpike Street (Route 9), Southboro and the phone number is 508-481-1714. It is west of the Framingham exit off the Mass Pike. If you're coming from the Boston area, take Route 9 west and reverse direction at the Route 85 intersection to get to Owen O'Leary's on the eastbound side. It's easy to spot.

Let's hope for decent weather, no salt, and a parking lot full of Alfas! See you at 12:30 on December 11th!Tiny Quadrifoglio
