The May Monthly All-Member Meeting
is Rained Out!
Our May
Monthly Meeting scheduled for 12:00 noon on Sunday, May 15th at Widow
Fletcher’s Tavern in Hampton, New Hampshire has
been canceled. We'll instead hold the June monthly meeting at
the same time and place on June 12th.
Located in the heart of Hampton Village, this 300-year-old establishment has been steadily pleasing visitors with it’s uniquely prepared fresh seafood, tender steaks, and great appetizers. The seafood chowder is a first place award winner, and the atmosphere is famous for its coziness and comfort. There’s also a Sunday brunch in which we can partake. For more info on our hosts for the May gathering, visit the Widow Fletcher's Tavern web site. The phone number is 603-926-8800.
We had nice turnouts for our first two monthly meetings, and this time will give all of you northern New Englanders a chance to attend a club gathering without having to drive too far. We’re looking forward to hanging out with a bunch of AONErs from New Hampshire, Maine, and northeastern Massachusetts who don’t often get an opportunity join in so easily!

The idea of these meetings is that they be informal gatherings to which you can drive your Alfa, grab a little chow, talk over ideas for club activities, talk Alfas, eyeball Alfas, and generally have an enjoyable time with your Alfa buds on a regular, scheduled basis. It’ll be a nice habit to get into! The location of our meetings varies, in order to give everyone in the region a chance to attend some of the get-togethers without having to drive too far. Next month, we’ll be back out west (western New England, that is).
Though it’s not required, we’re asking that you contact Kevin
Murphy at kevin@kmurphyslaw.com
or 508-879-1881 to let him know you’re coming so that we can get an approximate
head count. Perhaps after lunch/brunch, we’ll all take a cruise up and down
scenic Route 1A along the ocean! Be there at Widow Fletcher’s!![]()
Directions: Take I-95 to Exit 2 (For Route 101 East, Exeter, Hampton Beach). After the toll booth, bear left onto Route 101 East toward Hampton, and then left onto Route 1 North. Widow Fletcher’s is about a half mile up on the right. Parking is in the back—we’ll be in an upstairs dining room.

Italian
Car Day at the
Larz Anderson Auto Museum
Sunday,
May 22 is the date this year for Italian Car Day at the Larz Anderson
Auto Museum in Brookline, MA. That’s the weekend before Memorial Day, so mark
your calendars!
And here’s some great news: This year, the Alfas are going to be on the main lawn! The Ferraris, Lambos, and Masers are moving up the hill behind the museum, leaving lots of space on the main lawn for us! Woo-hoo! You can click here to download a map of the entire show in PDF format.
AONE Director Myron Barnett will be resuming his role as Head Alfa Judge. Any of you who have judged the Alfa section at previous years’ events, or would like to become a judge at this year’s event, are encouraged to contact Myron ASAP at 781-647-9699 (days), 617-641-0976 (evenings), or mbarnett@innovativecomputersolutions.net. You don’t have to be a total Alfa expert—just some basic knowledge of one or more of the model lines is sufficient. If you’re inexperienced, you’ll be paired with a more experienced judge—it’s a great way to learn what concours judging is all about. It’s also a lot of fun. And if that’s not enough, you get to look suave and important in your official judge’s shirt, which you get to keep. If you’re not comfortable with judging, the event could also use some parking volunteers to help with the large number of cars that are expected to attend. Also needed is someone willing to help with the pre-registration layout (grid) on the lawn. If you’re judging or helping, it’s requested that you arrive between 8:30 and 9:00.

In addition, following the success of last year’s experiment, there will be Saturday events this year as well! There will be a tour of the KTR Performance facility in Ayer, MA, followed by lunch and an Italian car road rally. Then, in the evening, there will be an elegant dinner solely for concorso entrants and their guests at the Exchange Center on Boston’s Fish Pier. Contact Myron if you need further info on the Saturday (or Sunday) events.
This year’s application form runs two pages; if you’ve participated before, you should have received yours in the mail. If not, you can click here to download it as a PDF file. Make sure to send it in before May 6th or your car won't be judged and you'll incur a substantial late fee! Since there’s been an increased emphasis on the charitable giving aspect of Italian Car Day, the registration fee is $25 this year.
So get out your California duster and bring your Alfa over to Brookline on the 22nd. The hours are 9AM-2PM and there will food available. There are always lots of beautiful Italian cars to admire, and always some ones you haven’t seen every year. For directions, visit the Museum web site. For more information on the event, visit the new Tutto Italiano web site. AONE will again be making its presence known with our canopy and banner, providing an Alfa focal point, offering AONE goodies for sale, and signing up new members, so stop by and say hello!
Alfa Romeo To Be Featured
Marque at
Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival
|
|
AONE members are planning a caravan! So far, nearly a dozen AONE members (and some spouses) are signed up to caravan out to Watkins Glen, NY on September 8th to participate in the largest event featuring ALFA in the Northeast since our highly successful Giulietta Giubilee last year. ALFA is the "Tour de Marque" for this year’s Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival, and members who sign up will participate in many special events, including a tour and lunch at Watkins Glen International Speedway, parade laps on the track, three laps of the old 6.6-mile long road course, and special reserved parking in downtown Watkins Glen for the Vintage Race Re-enactment. All of these events occur beginning at 8:00AM on Friday, September 9th—hence the need to get out there on the 8th.
On Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th are the SVRA Vintage Races at the track, which is a major take-in with many different classes competing wheel-to-wheel, and The Collier Cup. There will also be many vendors from all over the country to tug at your purse-strings, and a classic car show in which those participating in the prior day’s ALFA event are invited to show their cars (and it gives you great parking while at the track!).
As if all of this weren’t enough to give you a total overdose of your favorite obsession, the picture-perfect setting of Watkins Glen, crammed with old (and not so old) sports cars and racers, beautiful twisty roads dotted with wineries, lakes, and waterfalls make for a heady brew, so you’d better bring someone sensible with you to make sure you come back!
The Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival is a terrific weekend of vintage racing and other forms of celebration, all held in historic and scenic Watkins Glen, NY. It’s always a real happening, and this year Alfa Romeo is the featured marque! Attendance will be high and accommodations are filling up fast, so click here to download a brochure (2MB PDF file) and make your plans!
One last thing—the New York Club tells us that they have
twelve cars committed to this event (and more coming), so there’s another reason
to make the trip! Your club needs you to help make AONE….A-ONE!
