Grazie, by Brian Shorey |
Fellow AONE’rs,
Well, the culmination of that vision we first had four years ago has come and gone. Giulietta Giubilee is now history and, looking back on it, I’d like to say a few things.First and foremost, a sincere thanks to all of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club members, both from within and outside of AONE, who came together and worked so hard to make it all possible. I am extremely proud of the work we did as a team. Sure, there were a few minor bumps and glitches, but overall the response has been that our convention was an overwhelming success, any way it is measured—attendance numbers, the variety and quality of the events, and in the fun that everybody had.
It would not have happened without the team of people who stepped forward and made it work. So again, a sincere "thank you" to all of them.
A special word about Dave and Vi Pratt. I personally find it hard to express how disappointed I am at the miniscule effort they put in. I know that this convention would have been several times the success that it was had they not been there, and for that I, and all of us, should be truly disdainful for their lackadaisical work. Dave and Vi, you two are the pits! [Note to Brian—sorry, but your original wording of this paragraph had to be modified a bit. —Ed.]
After all this time, I find it hard to believe that it’s over. Some of us are suffering from some sort of post-convention depression, but hopefully it served to help energize the club. For me, I know that it helped to build friendships that will last a lifetime. Alfa people have always been the best, but having now gone through this kind of thing and having had the chance to work with the Alfa folks on the convention committee, I can honestly say that the people, the cars, and the whole experience have been one of the best for me, ever.
I sincerely appreciate having had this opportunity, and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!
Yours in Alfas,

[Just to add a thought to Brian’s: One thing the convention taught us is that our club is truly capable of pulling off a monumental effort if we put our minds to it! We now know how to produce top-notch TSD road rallies, autocross events, driving tours, pine-wood derbies, tech sessions, and even track days (and drag races!). If we can do it at the national level, it should be a cinch to do it at the local level. Let’s keep the revs up and parlay our experience into an ongoing schedule of exciting club activities! —Ed.]
