The May Day
Giulietta Giubilee
Practice Road Rally

by Steve Thomas

A

small but enthusiastic and devoted crew of Alfisti gathered at New Hampshire International Speedway on May Day for our Giulietta Giubilee Practice Rally. The day was absolutely perfect! A group of four AROC-NY Alfisti who have volunteered to help run the Rally during the convention came up that morning in a 164 to run the rally and offer suggestions. Including the 164, we had three cars start the Rally and two cars finish. The DNF was a gorgeous Montreal, piloted by Paul Hughes from Rhode Island. The Montreal unfortunately developed fuel supply problems and had to limp off toward home.

Kevin Murphy, my wife Diana, and I manned the en-route checkpoints, while Tom Letourneau and his wife Maureen started the drivers off and logged their times at the finish.

The finishers were almost tied, but AONE’s Peter Walker, with his navigator Meg Anderson, just managed to squeak out the best score in their Acura.

After the rally, we gathered at Millie’s Tavern in Manchester for a couple of brews, dinner, and a critique of the Rally. Everyone had a good time and quite a few constructive suggestions were made. The general consensus was that everyone should have a grand time at the Giulietta Giubilee Rally.

At about 6:00, we all headed our separate ways, with the New York group driving all the way back home.

Many thanks to all those who attended, and special thanks to George Linton, Joe Carella, Vic Cerami, and Dino Pappas, who came all the way up from Long Island to give us a hand!Tiny Quadrifoglio
