Tick, Tick, Tick by Brian Shorey |
Hey AONE’rs –
This is the next-to-last issue of
Velocissima you’ll be seeing prior to Giulietta Giubilee. The Convention Committee is working furiously to try to bring the best possible convention to all of us. I couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated team! However, we still could use some help! As the host chapter, we’re the ones to whom AROC is looking to provide the best possible convention. I know that a lot of you are looking forward to an enjoyable time; however, if you could squeeze in a few hours over the period of four and a half days to pitch in on just one activity, it would make for a much better time for all (including yourselves!).
Furthermore, there are some events in which helping out can get you a better vantage point. For example, sign up to help out as a corner worker at the Time Trials, and you’ll have one of the best seats in the house for watching all the action!
As of now, we have a very packed agenda. Many of our events are staffed, including having entire AROC chapters helping out with the Autocross and Rally! Come on, folks—if remote chapters can sign up to help, then surely you can pitch in a few hours somewhere!
As of now, we still need some help in the following areas:
Please contact me (bshorey@yahoo.com) or any of the Convention Committee with anything you are willing to help out on.
We’re hoping that everyone will have a great time this coming July/August at Giulietta Giubilee! Quite frankly, the "jobs" listed above don’t really entail much work; the Committee has done all the heavy lifting in advance! For most of the above, the time you spend helping out will probably be as much fun as the time you spend participating or spectating. I’ve been to many conventions where the registration/information booth is the center of activities; it’s the best place to hook up with many club members from all over the country (and the world!).
And if that’s not enough, consider that there just might be some special convention goodies available for the volunteer crew—stuff that simply won’t be available to anyone else!
The next convention planning meeting will be Monday, June 28th at 7pm at Cisco Systems, 200 Beaver Brook Road, Boxborough, MA. Take I-495 to Route 111 west for a very short distance and then right onto Swanson Road. Go to the end and take a left onto Beaver Brook Road. Cisco is the first building on the left. Call my cell phone as you arrive (978-973-0879), as the lobby will not be manned. Be careful not to speed, especially down Swanson Road, where the speed limit is 30 mph—the Boxborough police watch this road closely.
So please—give me or any of the convention crew a holler and let us know how you want to participate! See you all in July!
