emo to Glynn Motorsports: Call the paving company—you need a bigger parking lot. For whenever we’ve held one of our AONE Tech Session / Swap Meets there of late, the place has been bursting at the seams.
The event of Saturday, April 24
th was no exception. Despite a gray start to the day, the skies gradually cleared, leaving us with nice, brisk, sunny weather. Starting around 10am, Alfas began arriving in rapid succession, until there was no place to park except along the driveway on the way in. All in all, there were over fifty Alfisti in attendance.Within the bustling crowd were many new faces, which is something we all love to see, including several new members and a couple of soon-to-be new members. As a corollary, there were also many new Alfas to admire, including a ’57 Giulietta Spider, on the road for the first time in fifteen years; a dark red GTV that has to have been the best eBay Alfa bargain ever; a Niki Lauda Spider, the likes of which hasn’t been seen in Rowley in fifteen years; and this writer’s newly-acquired ’61 Giulietta Spider 2000, fresh from a drive from Oregon to retrieve it.
Speaking of Niki, Niki Mouhtouris (the organizing influence at Glynn Motorsports) again came through with a most enjoyable lunch for our crowd, consisting of various delectable sandwiches and pasta salad, followed by strawberry shortcake with home-made whipped cream. Yum! Thanks again, Niki! Thanks also to Peter Walker and Tom Ducibella, who made all the arrangements and delivered the much-needed coffee, donuts, and bagels for the people who arrived early.
Although we’d intended to hold a Q&A-in-the-round session with Paul Glynn as we did last fall, that never materialized because everybody was too busy! Instead, Paul and the other Glynn Motorsportsters spent all day chatting with various folks individually and in small groups. A lot of information was exchanged, and it didn’t even sound like Paul’s voice was too hoarse at the end of the day.
It’s pretty neat to watch (and be part of) all of our members gathering around the various cars, asking questions, comparing notes, swapping stories (and Alfa parts), and in general immersing in all things Alfa. With good reason, Alfisti are realizing that it isn’t a very good idea to miss one of these events, because to do so inevitably means missing something new, fun, and interesting. If you missed this one, be sure to make the next!
