Giulietta Giubilee May Day
Practice Road Rally
Don’t miss out on the May Day Rally! The salt, snow and cold will be gone, so drop your top or roll down your windows and let’s rally!
This
Road Rally is going to follow the same route that the Giulietta Giubilee Rally
will, in order to get some feedback and to offer our volunteers the opportunity
to have some fun and get some ownership of the event. We especially wish to send
our welcome and thanks to the NY chapter of AROC, whose members have volunteered
to provide manpower for this event at the Convention.
Where: We will start at New Hampshire International Speedway and wind our way through myriad back roads south toward Manchester. The route is quite scenic and will even include a covered bridge or two!
When:
Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 1:00 PM. (You might want to stop for lunch before
you arrive, or bring something along and munch it when you get there.)
How long: The Rally should take about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Afterward, we can compare notes at a local restaurant.
How much: The restaurant will be "Dutch treat"; no other costs.
RSVP: Steve Thomas, srt@anlytc.com, 603-293-4250
Please note: If you participate in the Practice Rally, you won’t be eligible to win a trophy at the convention. However, if you volunteer to man a checkpoint for the Practice Rally, you will be eligible to compete at the convention!
How to get there: From the south, take Route I-93 north to Concord, NH. Take Route I-393 east to Exit 3. Take Route 106 north to the Speedway. We will start at the Main Entrance parking lot.
We will need a few volunteers from AONE to man the checkpoints for this Practice Rally. Please let Steve know if you’d like to help. See you on May Day!
Italian Car Day at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum
Sunday, May 23 is the date this year for Italian Car Day at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA. That’s the weekend before Memorial Day, so mark your calendars and don’t forget! As you may recall, last year’s event took place in the middle of a monsoon, so everybody’s going to want to make up for it this year. There was a terrific showing of over 50 Alfas the year before, so you won’t want to miss it!
Click
here to download an application form in PDF format—make sure to send it
in before May 7th to save $10 off the registration fee! This year, there will be
an emphasis on pre-registrations. It’s strongly suggested that all cars be
pre-registered to assure a decent spot on the lawn. In addition, your car will
not be judged if you don’t pre-register, or if you haven’t arrived by 10:30!
After last year’s inauspicious debut, AONE Director Myron Barnett will again be the Head Alfa Judge. Any of you who have judged the Alfa section at previous years’ events, or would like to become a judge at this year’s event, are encouraged to contact Myron ASAP at 617-840-9800 days, 617-641-0976 evenings, or ar164@aol.com. You don’t have to be a total Alfa expert—just some basic knowledge of one or more of the model lines is sufficient. If you’re inexperienced, you’ll be paired with a more experienced judge—it’s a great way to learn what concours judging is all about. It’s also a lot of fun. And if that’s not enough, you get to look suave and important in your official judge’s shirt, which you get to keep. If you’re not comfortable with judging, the event could also use some parking volunteers to help with the large number of cars that are expected to attend. Also needed is someone willing to help with the pre-registration layout (grid) on the lawn. If you’re judging or helping, it’s requested that you arrive between 8:30 and 9:00.
But
wait—there’s more! For the first time, there will be Saturday events this year!
There will be a tour of the KTR Performance facility in Ayer, MA, followed by
lunch and an Italian car road rally. Then, in the evening, a cocktail reception
will be held at Ferrari & Maserati of New England, followed dinner out together.
Click here to download a PDF form for the
dinner party. Contact Myron if you need further info on the Saturday (or
Sunday) events—he'd like to encourage any and
all Alfa participants to at least go to the cocktail party, as it is free and
open to all people showing their cars and to those judging.
In any case, get out your Alfa, give her a little spit and polish, and bring her on over to Brookline. The hours are 9AM-2PM and there will food available. There are always lots of beautiful Italian cars to admire, and always some ones you haven’t seen every year. For directions and more information, visit the Museum web site. AONE will again be making its presence known with our canopy and banner, providing an Alfa focal point, offering AONE goodies for sale, and signing up new members, so stop by and say hello!
