VSCCA Spring Sprints at Lime Rock Park to Honor the Giulietta
April 9-10

The VSCCA vintage race weekends in the Spring and Fall are nice, low-key racing events at one of the nation’s most scenic race tracks. There are always upwards of a hundred great old race cars slugging it out on the race track just like in days gone by. This one will be a little special, as this note from Susan Dixon of Alfas Unlimited in Norfolk, CT describes:

We’re planning to have a small tribute to the Alfa Giulietta’s 50th anniversary at the Spring Sprints. Although there is not enough track time for a real race group, anyone with a Giulietta can participate in a parade lap/photo op on Saturday morning, and we will have a little Italian party (wine, pizza, antipasto, etc.) after the racing on both Friday and Saturday at Alfas Unlimited’s paddock, with some commemorative items for Alfa owners.

Hope to see all the Giuliettas there!

Susan

AONE Gathering for the Jonathan Stein Lecture on Alfa Romeo
Tuesday, April 13

Noted author Jonathan Stein will be lecturing on Alfa Romeo at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA on Tuesday, April 13th. The doors open at 7:00 for refreshments and the talk begins at 7:30. But show up earlier, say 6:15, and we can park our Alfas on the lawn and grille up some burgers and hot dogs!

Jonathan A. Stein began his automotive writing career editing a small magazine and writing advertising and promotional copy before joining the editorial staff of Automobile Quarterly. His involvement with historic automobiles has grown to include judging, organizing and competing in shows, serving on a museum board, and establishing a sports car register. A member of the Society of Automotive Historians and the International Motor Press Association, Stein has written articles for Automobile Quarterly, Car Collectors and Car Classic, and several other magazines. Stein is the Publishing Director of Automobile Quarterly.

For directions and details about the Larz Anderson Auto Museum please check their website, or contact event organizer Steven Silverstein at 508-766-6290 or milano164@comcast.net. The cost is $5.00 for Auto Museum members and $7.00 for non-members (try to bring exact change if possible). If you’re planning to attend the pre-event cook-out, please let Steve know so he can plan how much food to bring!Tiny Quadrifoglio

AONE Tech Session and Swap Meet at Glynn Motorsports
Saturday, April 24

Back by popular demand! Glynn Motorsports will be hosting AONE’s first Tech Session and Swap Meet of the year on April 24th beginning at 10AM. At last autumn’s affair, over 60 people showed up—the biggest turnout at any AONE event in recent memory! So bring your Alfa and whatever parts or Alfabilia you might have lying around—we’ll also be holding a swap meet in the parking lot.

Paul holds an Alfa Q&A session "in the round" at last autumn’s
AONE tech session that proved to be an extremely popular format

At last fall’s event, rather than hold a tech session on a specific topic, we all gathered in a circle in the center of the shop and engaged Paul in an unscripted Question and Answer session. This format worked out very well and everyone found it both enjoyable and educational. Paul liked it too, so we’ll be doing it this way again. We’ll all assemble at around 11:00 and Paul will field questions from the group, so bring yours and ask it!

There’s a lot to like about AONE tech sessions—all of the various Alfas to admire in the parking lot, lots of interesting cars in Paul’s shop, parts and literature to buy and sell, and lots of fellow Alfa enthusiasts to share the experience. Yes, there will be many assorted steel and alloy bits of various sizes and shapes lying around, but it’s really an event for everyone!

Glynn Motorsports is located at 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA 01909. Directions: From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley. In three miles, go straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1. Proceed 1.5 mile and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since it’s easy miss, although we’ll try to have our Alfa banners out front. There is a large lot to park and show your parts, display your car, and wander around among the Alfas.

The doors will open as usual at 10AM—AONE will be supplying coffee and pastries. Later, some savory luncheon fare will make an appearance (donations to help defray the cost will be gratefully accepted). See you there!Tiny Quadrifoglio

Giulietta Giubilee May Day Practice Road Rally
Saturday, May 1

Don’t miss out on the May Day Rally! The salt, snow and cold will be gone, so drop your top or roll down your windows and let’s rally!

This Road Rally is going to follow the same route that the Giulietta Giubilee Rally will, in order to get some feedback and to offer our volunteers the opportunity to have some fun and get some ownership of the event. We especially wish to send our welcome and thanks to the NY chapter of AROC, whose members have volunteered to provide manpower for this event at the Convention.

Where: We will start at New Hampshire International Speedway and wind our way through myriad back roads south toward Manchester. The route is quite scenic and will even include a covered bridge or two!

When: Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 1:00 PM. (You might want to stop for lunch before you arrive, or bring something along and munch it when you get there.)

How long: The Rally should take about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Afterward, we can compare notes at a local restaurant.

How much: The restaurant will be "Dutch treat"; no other costs.

RSVP: Steve Thomas, srt@anlytc.com, 603-293-4250

Please note: If you participate in the Practice Rally, you won’t be eligible to win a trophy at the convention. However, if you volunteer to man a checkpoint for the Practice Rally, you will be eligible to compete at the convention!

How to get there: From the south, take Route I-93 north to Concord, NH. Take Route I-393 east to Exit 3. Take Route 106 north to the Speedway. We will start at the Main Entrance parking lot.

We will need a few volunteers from AONE to man the checkpoints for this Practice Rally. Please let Steve know if you’d like to help. See you on May Day!Tiny Quadrifoglio
