Now is the time
for all good men
to come to the aid
of their Alfa club

A

nd women too, of course! Our Giulietta Giubilee convention planning is coming along quite well, but one thing that’s abundantly clear is that we’re going to need a lot of AONE members to volunteer to help make our convention enjoyable for everybody and successful for our club. Our convention team is pulling strong, and it’s certain that we’ll all have a real feeling of accomplishment once the convention takes place. Do consider that it’s been many, many years since AONE has hosted the national convention, and it will be many, many years before we’ll get the opportunity to do it again. So we urge you to join the push and help the cause! There’ll never be an occasion when your efforts to support your club will be more crucial and appreciated as right now!

On Monday, March 1st, about 15 convention-minded AONE members met at Papa Razzi Ristorante in Newton Lower Falls, MA for the first of our monthly face-to-face convention planning meetings. In attendance (in no particular order) were Convention Chairman Brian Shorey, Andy Kress, Eliot Shanabrook, AONE President Tom Lesko, Kevin Murphy, Stephan de Penasse, Paul Leone, Bill LeClair, Len Cannizzaro, Bob Ladd, John Legelis, Simon Body, Glenn Michael, Jim Shorey, and Dave Pratt. (Sorry if we missed someone.)

The group of convention planners gets down to business after dinner,
concentrating on loose ends that need some knots tied

After enjoying some of Papa Razzi’s fine Italian fare, we got down to the business of reviewing the status of the many elements of our convention and identifying areas that need attention. Most of us emerged with some task lists, but also with the belief that our efforts are proceeding on schedule and will result in a convention experience that we’ll be proud of and that AROC members from all over North America will remember for a long time to come.

Get out your calendars and mark the second Monday of every month from now through July as Convention Planning Meeting Night! The next one is right around the corner on Monday, April 12th! It will be at a different Papa Razzi’s—the one in Concord, MA—with a starting time of 7:00pm. It’s easy to find: From Route 128 (I-95), take Route 2 west toward Concord. Papa Razzi is on the right, just before the Concord rotary. Please contact Kevin Murphy at kevin.murphy@kmurphyslaw.com or 508-879-1881 to let him know that you’re coming so that we can get a head count for the restaurant. Hope you can make it! (By the way, our meetings aren’t all business—our club is never all business—the whole idea, including our convention venture, is to have a good time!)

One effort that will need a lot of staff is the manning of the registration/information desk in the hotel mezzanine lobby. This area will be the focal point for convention attendees—the place where folks get signed in, find out what they need to know, hang out, and make and remake friends. We’ll need three or four people at the desk during peak arrival times, and a couple of people there at all times during the day right through the convention. We’ll therefore need a lot of you to sign up for one or more three-hour shifts. It’s a great way to meet fellow Alfisti from all over! Take a look at the convention schedule at www.giubilee.com and pick some times when you think you might be free to take a shift or two. Also, if you have a Significant Other who’s looking for a way to help, this is the perfect opportunity. Other areas in need of people to take on some duties include concours judging, tech session coordination, the awards luncheon, merchandising, the Alfa art show, Alfa concours, and alternative events for families. Contact Brian Shorey at bshorey@yahoo.com or 978-973-0879 to sign up to help with the registration/information desk or any of these other endeavors, or to just volunteer to help in general. Your skills and efforts will be put to good use!

We need you!!!Tiny Quadrifoglio
