Convention Update

by Brian Shorey
Convention Chairman

Hey AONE members —

The Convention Committee is hard at work—specific venue chairpeople are making great progress on individual events. We still need more help, most of it for some of the smaller details that need coverage, either leading up to, or during, the convention itself. Stay tuned over the coming months for additional details, or email me at bshorey@cisco.com.

A good portion of the Convention Committee met at our Manchester, NH convention hotel in October, and took advantage of the generous offer from Joel and Linda Edinburg, our convention advisors, of an extensive brain dump and Q&A session. This meeting was highly informative—we got a lot of great ideas from Joel and Linda, and had a lot of our questions answered.

The individual venues are well underway. Steven Silverstein is hard at work on the concours, Tom Letourneau and Steve Thomas are well into course layout for the road rallye, and the competition chairs—Stephan de Pénasse, Eliot Shanabrook, and Andy Kress—have combined efforts to make sure that we have consistent technical and safety guidelines across all the competition events. And our editor and webmaster, Dave Pratt, is plugging away at a great web site that will have all kinds of convention-related details and other neat stuff on it.

Based on the outcome of the October meeting, I’m wrapping up a pretty detailed list of individual jobs we’ll need coverage for. In addition to Velocissima and the online mailing list, we’ll also have some discussion at the annual holiday party. And starting right after the first of the year, I’m planning to arrange regular monthly face-to-face meetings for the duration leading up to the convention.

Finally, other committee members and I are hearing from people all over the country who are planning to attend. We’ve been somewhat conservative in our planning to date, but I’m beginning to get the impression that attendance will exceed all of our expectations! I attribute that to the drag racing, but who knows?

We’re in the final stretch now—before we know it, we’ll all be in New Hampshire having one hell of a time!Tiny Quadrifoglio
