Mostly photos from the vintage racing season closer
This year’s VSCCA Fall Finale at Lime Rock was another most enjoyable affair! While not nearly of the same magnitude as the big Lime Rock vintage race events on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, this mid-October date always has a lot to offer, with upwards of 100 classic race cars to watch on and off the track, no crowds, easy parking, beautiful foliage, and friendly people with whom to hobnob.
It’s always surprising that, no matter how often one attends these events, there are always several cars showing up that haven’t been seen around before. Of very special interest this time was the extraordinary, scarce Zagato-bodied Giulietta Sprint pictured on the front cover and in some more photos below. It’s a great-looking car, designed with aerodynamics in mind and weighing 500 pounds less than a production Giulietta Sprint. Only four were produced with the double-bubble roof, and it became the precursor to the famous Sprint Zagato. It was a thrill to watch Larry Auriana’s piece of history flying around the track in the capable hands of his brother Mark. With old vintage racers, there’s always something new!
