VSCCA Spring Sprints
at
Lime Rock Park

Saturday, April 12

The VSCCA season kicks off with the Spring Sprints, a low-key vintage racing event at one of the nation’s most scenic race tracks. The club prides itself on its emphasis on sportsmanship rather than race-winning, but “low-key” doesn’t really describe the on-track action. There are upwards of a hundred great old race cars slugging it out just like in days gone by. For more info, visit www.limerock.com and www.vscca.org. No crowds, easy parking, lots of great historic cars to admire up close and on the race track. It’s a fine way to spend a Friday and/or Saturday!  Tiny Quadrifoglio

Forza Italiana!
- at Lime Rock Park

Friday and Saturday, April 25-26

The Alfa Romeo Owners Club - Connecticut chapter is again sponsoring two days of driver’s school, open practice and timed laps at Lime Rock Park. The traditional format of two track days will be continued. Friday’s focus will be classroom and track instruction for the less-experienced drivers and practice sessions on the track for the more-experienced veterans. Registrations will be limited to 75 drivers.

On Saturday, to maximize track time, the limit will again be 75 drivers. All cars must come to the track pre-tech inspected. The first group will be on the track at 9:00 sharp, the earliest that local ordinances allow. ARO-CT has the reputation of running the smoothest and safest track event around, and this year will be no different. There will be paid corner workers to reduce down time between run groups.

A change for this year is the requirement for a Snell-95 or newer helmet; also, safety equipment (seat belts, roll-bar coverage) must be identical for driver and front passenger. Those of you with open cars will need to have an SCCA-legal roll bar that extends two inches above both driver’s and passenger’s helmets—insurance rules no longer allow cars with street roll bars onto the track.

Cost is $310 for both days if you sign up before March 31, or $375 thereafter. Contact ARO-CT’s Mario Romagnoli for more information on this wonderful event (or if you’d like to volunteer to help). He can be reached at (914) 693-7426 evenings, email at MFRMD@aol.com, or fax anytime at (914) 693-1636. Detailed information and the application form can be downloaded as an Acrobat PDF file by clicking right here.

So bring your car and run, or just show up to watch—it’s great fun. There’s a concession stand on the grounds, you can park right in the paddocks, and there are plenty of uncrowded, pastoral locations from which to watch the action. This is a private event, so bring your AROC membership card or you may not get in, even just to spectate!   Tiny Quadrifoglio

AONE Tech Session/Swap Meet
at Glynn Motorsports

Saturday, May 10

The institution returns! The folks at Glynn Motorsports will again be the hosts for AONE’s Spring Tech Session and Swap Meet to be held on May 10th beginning at 10AM.

Bring your Alfa and whatever parts or Alfabilia you might have lying around—we’ll be having a swap meet in the parking lot. The topic for the Tech Session still hasn’t been determined at this point, but you can be sure it’ll be of interest.

This is always a terrific gathering, and you don’t have to be a gearhead to enjoy it! There are lots of various Alfas to admire in the parking lot, plenty of interesting cars in Paul’s shop, and lots of fellow Alfa enthusiasts to shoot the breeze with.

Glynn Motorsports is located at 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA 01909. Directions: From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley, straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1, 1-2 miles and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since it’s easy to miss, although we’ll try to have our Alfa banners out front. There is a large lot to park, show your parts, and display your car.

The festivities begin at 10AM and AONE will be supplying light food and drink! See you there!  Tiny Quadrifoglio

Italian Car Day
at the
Museum of Transportation

Sunday, June 1

Sunday, June 1 is the date this year for Italian Car Day at the Museum of Transportation at Lars Anderson Park in Brookline, MA. That’s the weekend after Memorial Day, so mark your calendars and don’t forget! There was a terrific showing of over 50 Alfas last year, so don’t miss it! We’ll be publishing more details and the entry form in the next issue of Velocissima.

As most of you know, AONE Director Jim Miga has been actively involved in the planning and running of Italian Car Day at the Museum of Transportation for many years now, especially the Alfa Romeo end of things. Due to professional responsibilities, Jim will not be able to be involved this year. Therefore, the Museum is looking for someone to take his place as the head Alfa Judge. The responsibilities include: locating eight judges (including two backup judges), attending event meetings (one or two at most), working with the judges during the show to keep things moving, tallying final scores, announcing winners, and presenting trophies.

Jim would like to express his gratitude to Tom Lesko, Myron Barnett, Steve Silverstein, Jonathan Kirshtein, Bill Anderson, Andy Kress, and others for all of their help in previous years — you know who you are!

We hope that you can help out this year and into the future. If this is something that interests you, we urge you to step up to the plate! The Museum will need help in other areas as well, such as trophy design/production, T-shirts, Fiat & Lancia judges, and parking help. If you are interested, you may contact Ellen Hagney (Museum of Transportation) at 617-522-6547 ext. *814 or Jim Miga at 781-729-7567 or jmiga@gis.net. It’s a terrific opportunity to really get involved in the Italian car community!  Tiny Quadrifoglio
