AONE January Thaw Tour

AONE All-Member Annual Pot Luck Winter Dinner Party

AONE January Thaw Tour

January ???, 2003

Unwilling to go the entire Winter without an Alfa driving event, we’ll be holding the Second Annual AONE January Thaw Tour ... sometime in January. It’s a chance to get our Alfas out and give ‘em a little exercise, a chance to drive some scenic roads you’ve perhaps never been on before, a chance to have some fun in the form of a little gimmick rally, and a chance to have lunch at the end with a bunch of your Alfa pals.

This event will be announced by email only, and will be spur-of-the-moment based on weather and road conditions! So keep an eye on your Inbox (especially if the weekend weather is looking promising). And if you’re not on our email list, sign up now by dropping a note to webmaster@velocissima.com. Keep a lookout!   Tiny Quadrifoglio

AONE All-Member Annual Pot Luck Winter Dinner Party

Saturday, February 1st

A panoramic shot of some of the revelers at last year’s AONE Winter Party

Why mess with a good thing? Everything’s falling into place for our annual AONE Winter Dinner Party, to be held on Saturday, February 1st! This year’s bash will again be held at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, the site of the last three years’ flings and several monumental AONE blowouts of the past. It’s a cozy, old, comfortable, wood-paneled, centrally located venue—perfect for our gathering—no one can think of a better place!

As we’ve done in the past few years, we’ve decided that the best way to get the best food for our soiree will be—to bring our own food! So it’s pot luck once again! If you make a special dish (or can talk your significant other into making one for you), bring it along! This is an Italian car club, so Italian food is de rigueur, but it really doesn’t matter. Entrees, salads, breads, desserts—anything goes! There will be a kitchen available to warm things up.

AONE Winter Party Guest Speaker Chris Szwedo

Chris Szwedo is the producer / director / writer of Lime Rock Park: The Secret Valley of Racing, the one-hour independent film for Public Television that has become a highly respected essay on the beauty and passion of motor sports. He has nearly twenty years of experience as a producer of scientifically oriented corporate and special interest video presentations.

It was Chris’s first passing look at Lime Rock Park that brought forth the idea for his first broadcast documentary—one that would incorporate the perspective of a full year of New England life as an emotional backdrop to a special setting in racing history, and to the unique outlook held by racers and their fans.

Chris has future plans for more presentations on motor sports. His most recent projects have been the completion of the DVD follow-up version of The Secret Valley of Racing, and a special Tribute To Sam Posey , which served as a cornerstone to the main events at the 2002 Lime Rock Fall Vintage Festival.

The club will be supplying soft drinks, but if you prefer something a little more hardy, feel free to bring your own. As always, there will be lots of great (and not-so-great) Alfa-oriented door prizes!

We’ll be kicking things off at 6PM. Significant others are much more than welcome—they’ll help keep our conversations away from cam profiles and thermostatic actuators. Dress is casual.

We’ve lined up a terrific guest speaker for the evening as well! Chris Szwedo, the creator of that great film about Lime Rock that aired on PBS a few months ago, will do the honors. You can read a brief bio on Chris in the sidebar to the right.

This year, due to escalating expenses, we’ll be collecting a $5/person donation at the door to help defray the costs of door prizes, renting the hall, providing the soft drinks, procuring the audio-visual equipment, etc. The donation will enter you in a raffle drawing for a valuable Alfa objet d’art!

You can find directions to the Tavern on the opposite page. Although not required, we’re asking you to help in our planning by either signing up online by clicking right here or by contacting AONE Director and event organizer Frank Maldari at 978-475-2846 or by email at mbellatrix@aol.com. This will let us tell the Tavern how many people to expect and help us figure out what kind of food is needed. Questions? Contact Frank!

The AONE Winter Party has become a most enjoyable institution, with well over 50 revelers in attendance last year. It makes for a great break in the winter and reminds us that Alfa season is just around the corner. Don’t miss this gala affair!   Tiny Quadrifoglio
