Vintage Festival at Lime Rock Park
Cant get enough Vintage Racing? Who can blame youits always a thrill to be able to experience the great race cars of yesteryear. On Labor Day Weekend, youll be able to not only watch the vintage races at Lime Rock but also to experience the cars up closesee em, hear em, touch em, smell em. There are practice sessions Friday, qualifying races Saturday, a concours and classic car auction Sunday (no racing), and the trophy races on Monday (Labor Day). Throughout the weekend are a vintage swap meet and lots of other activities.
And this year is specialit marks Lime Rocks 20th
Anniversary of the annual Vintage Festival! To celebrate, there will be even more things
going on than usual.
On top of that, Fiat Lancia Unlimited (FLU) will sponsor its 9th Annual Italian Car Corral on Labor Day. All Italian marques are welcome to join the corral. Each year, the corral attracts over 60 Italian cars including Fiats, Lancias, Ferraris, and Alfas. This year, Lime Rock is expanding upon the Italian Car Corral idea by setting up mini-corrals for marques from other countries. To accomplish this, the location of all of the corrals will be in the track outfield. You must access the Italian Car Corral through the Outfield Gate on Route 112.
Please plan to arrive between 10 AM and 11 AM. There is a footbridge over the straightaway that connects the outfield with the infield, so that you can easily visit the used part vendors or watch the racing from the hill overlooking the S-turns.
There is no charge to participants in the corral. Daily or weekend tickets to the Vintage Festival are available at the gate. Camping in the infield is free to all who purchase weekend passes. More information on the Vintage Festival is available at www.limerock.com. For information on the Italian Car Corral, contact FLUs Tim Beeble at tbeeble@aol.com or 203-743-4954. With any other questions, contact AONEs Kevin Murphy at 508-879-1881 or xpertcool@aol.com.
It doesnt get better than thissee you in the corral? ![]()

AONE
Annual Caravan
to the
Castle Hill Concours dElegance
Sunday, September 22
The tradition
continues! Since we had such a great time last year (and the year before),
AONE will again be staking claim to an Alfa-only section on the lawn at the eighth annual
Castle Hill Concours dElegance in Ipswich, MA on Sunday, September 22. The idea is
to get as many pre-1973 (their rules) Alfas as we can muster to form a parade from Glynn
Motorsports (only a few miles away). If we all drive in together, we all get to park
together, and this area will become our clubs gathering point for the event.
Were going to group up between 8:00 and 8:15 AM in the Glynn Motorsports parking
lot. From there, well form a caravan for the trip up to Castle Hill to get there
right around when the grounds open so that we can grab our spot.
Directions to Glynn Motorsports: From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley, straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1, 1-2 miles and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since its easy to miss. The address is 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA 01909.
For those of you with 1973 and later Alfas, simply proceed directly to Castle Hill any time youd like (earlier is better, as this is a popular event), park, take the shuttle bus to the grounds, and meet up with the vintage Alfa types.
Directions to Castle Hill: Route I-95/Route 128 North to Exit 20A (Route 1A North). Follow 1A for 8 miles to Ipswich. Right on Route 133 East, 1.5 miles to Northgate Road. Left on Northgate, .5 miles to Argilla Road. Right on Argilla, 2.3 miles to gate and parking.
Well have our Alfa Romeo banners in the trees behind our vintage Alfa lineup, and there we can gather round, compare notes, talk Alfas, and recover from the overdose of automotive splendor to which well be subjected. The Vintage Sports Car Club of America is putting on this event, which runs from 9AM to 3PM, and is a fund raiser for The Trustees of Reservations, a member-supported nonprofit conservation organization that owns and cares for Castle Hill. Theres more info and photos on the web at www.castlehillconcours.com.
Cant make it to Pebble Beach this year? Come out to the Castle
Hill Concours instead! ![]()
Safety and Performance Driving School at NHIS
Monday-Tuesday, September 23-24
Giovanni Tomasi, a driving instructor for the Audi Club USA, Northeast Chapter and an Alfa Romeo aficionado (raised on Giuliettas and Giulia Supers), has graciously invited members of the Alfa Owners of New England to join in a safety driving school at New Hampshire International Speedway on September 23 & 24, 2002 (Monday and Tuesday).
Please note that this is not a racing school! It is a safety and performance driving school where students are divided into groups based on experience and learn car handling skills on the track under controlled conditions. These schools are a great opportunity to drive our fine automobiles without worrying about laser, radar, vascar, etc.
You can find more information on the Northeast Audi Quattro Club site. You can also contact Giovanni with any questions at 860-742-9663 (H), 860-742-2910 (W), or gptomasi@skylergroup.com.
Pasta Fazoom -
Sunday, September 29
First run in 1999, Pasta Fazoom (formerly known as the Italian Car Cruise) is structured as a low-key road event affording Italian car owners an opportunity to gather for some camaraderie and an enjoyable cruise though the picturesque Central New York countryside. This is NOT a concours eventthis is a drivers outing.
The happening is growing every year, with 26 diverse
Italian cars joining the fun last season. Due to increased interest, this time the number
of cars will be limited to three flights, so please register early! One of the flights
will be Eleganza (relaxed touring) style, while the other two will remain Con Brio (with
spirit).
Despite living out there in New York state, Italian Car Consortium founder Cal Crouch is also an enthusiastic AONE member. In its fourth year, the sortie will take place on Sunday, September 29th. There will also be a gathering of sorts on Saturday afternoon and evening, so why not plan to make a weekend of it? The Cruise itself shoves off at 11AM on Sunday and winds down around 3PM for cider and togetherness, so theres plenty of time to get home for a good nights sleep before Monday rolls around.
Last years participants, including at least two AONE members, reported having a lot of funthat it was a great chance to tear up some terrific empty roads with other Italian marques! Theres a lot more information, some great photos from previous years cruises, and an online registration form on the ICC web site at www.apollo19.com/italiancruise/, or you can reach Cal at 315-691-9718 or calvincrouch@hotmail.com.
So come on out west where the roads are twisty and empty, just as
they should be. Who knowsmaybe in a couple of years well annex Upstate New
York into Alfa Owners of New England... ![]()
