Second Annual South Shore Mystery Rallye!
Sunday, July 21st
Back for its second season! The date is set as July 21st for this years rallye down on the Massachusetts South Shore. Why are we calling it a "Mystery Rallye"? Because, at this time, we have absolutely no idea whats going to be happening. AONE member and event organizer Peter Marino and (mainly) his wife Carole recently gave birth to a new Alfista, now just four weeks old. But theyre still gung-ho rallyemasters, and will set up this fun tour with directional instructions and questions about points of interest along the way. The standing of each rallye team will be based on Total Time, Total Distance, and Number of Questions answered correctly. So itll be a very loose TSD rallye, with the fun of a "stop and see" touring event!

Last year, we had a nice turnout of around a dozen cars. Everyone had a smashing time (not in the fender-bender sense), and this year were hoping to do even better. AONE has several new members on the South Shore and in Rhode Islandthis is a great chance for you to get in on the action! Again, we have to stress that this is a FUN rallyeits not like a SCCA Road Rally.
The Rallye route will traverse through scenic sections of southeastern Massachusetts (right now, thats all we know). It will take about two hours to complete. At the destination, well gather for a picnic. We had a grand time last year trading war stories and "complaining" about the sometimes-inscrutable rallye directions, while Peter and Carole tallied up the results and summer picnic fare sizzled on the grill. The entry fee is a mere $10 per car, which will pay for food and prizes for the "winners". Dash plaques will be awarded to all entrants!
The first car will be off at 11:00 AM, so try to get there before 10:45. This is a real family event, so not only just the car guys can come out and have some fun. We highly recommend at least having someone in the passenger seat to read off the instructions while the driver holds up his/her end of the bargain. To help Peter and Carole organize the event and especially plan the food, please contact them directly at Alfa02189@peoplepc.com or 781-335-3202 to register or with any questions.
Directions to the rallye start (AutoZone, 555 Washington Street, Weymouth, MA
, 781-331-2770)From the North - Head south on I-93 going to and through Boston. When you get to the Route 3/128 split in Quincy, go south on Route 3 heading toward Cape Cod. Go PAST the following 3 exits: Braintree/Washington Street (Exit 14), Union Street (Exit 15), and South Weymouth/Naval Air Base (Exit 16B). Take the very next exit, which is 16A. The ramp dumps you onto Route 18 (heading north) and you can only go one way. Follow Route 18 to the second set of lights. Go right and you'll see the AutoZone sign about 500 yards up Route 53/Washington Street.
From the South - Go north on Route 3 and get off of at 16A and follow the directions above from there.
Last years South Shore Rallye was a ton of funcome along this year!
AONE Gathering
Were off to the races again! July 31 - August 4 are the dates for this years annual New Hampshire Vintage Celebration, a weekend of Vintage Sports Car Racing at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon. The celebration runs from Wednesday through Sundayhere is the schedule:
Vintage racing on the oval on Wednesday & Thursday
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, vintage racing sports cars and motorcycles take to the road circuit.
Sunday features the Harts Turkey Farm Restaurant Open Vehicle Show and the Elegance Car Show
Your AONE club will set up its canopy in the infield with our banner on it so that you can find us (it is a big place). As we did last year, were gonna fire up the BBQ grill and have free food and drinks available for club members and guests.
This is a great opportunity to see vintage Alfas and many other sports cars and motorcycles on the track. There may be three or four AONE members racing (among them Paul Glynn with his Giulietta and Bob Russell with his Sprint Zagato), so come cheer them on! Bring a chair if you like and stroll through the infield amongst the beautiful vintage cars and bikes.
So get an early start Saturday, drive up to Loudon, buy your infield tickets ($20 for the whole weekend), and look for our Alfa banners in the pit/infield area! Consider finding a place to flop Saturday night and taking in the concours and more racing on Sunday! For more info, check out the NHIS web site, or contact Tom Lesko at 781-749-9132 or tmlesko@comcast.net. And be sure to check this web page for late-breaking news!

Last year, we had a fine turnout of 25 or more Alfisti and had a great time! (We even fed them all.) This year, well make sure to have enough food for at least that many. Dont miss it!
