The AONE January Thaw Tour
Sunday, January 27
This one's been in the works for a few weeks now, and the perfect weekend is upon us! The First Annual(?) AONE January Thaw Tour is set for this Sunday, the 27th. The Thursday rain will get rid of the road salt, and then it'll dry out and be sunny and (relatively) mild for the weekend!
What's the AONE January Thaw Tour? An excuse to get our Alfas out and give 'em a little exercise. A chance to drive some scenic roads you've perhaps never been on before. A little fun to boot, in the form of a little gimmick rally. And an opportunity to have lunch at the end with a bunch of your Alfa pals.
Attention die-hard Patriots fans: This event is not for you! The Pats playoff game starts at 12:30 on Sunday, a definite conflict. But if you couldn't care less about watching a bunch of overweight, overpaid behemoths with earrings pummeling each other for a few hours, then consider: The game will keep everybody else inside in front of their TV sets and we'll have the roads to ourselves! Are you with me? If so, read on...
Without giving too much away, our tour will take advantage of the natural beauty of the New England coastline north of Boston. We've planned a 40-plus mile route with plenty of zigs and zags and lots of eye candy. We've identified (and personally tested) a restaurant with a terrific view where you can get anything from a sandwich to an elegant dinner.
The details: We'll meet in the Glynn Motorsports parking lot in Rowley, MA (directions below) at 10:30AM. At a brief drivers' meeting, you'll be given printed directions for the tour/rally. The rally is designed for fun above everything else, and you just follow the directions and answer some questions along the way. Having a navigator (with a pencil) in your passenger seat to read off the directions is highly recommended, but not absolutely required. The first car is off at 11AM and the rest will follow about every three minutes. Roughly an hour and a half later (with luck), we'll convene at the restaurant, compare notes, hand out a prize or two, and eat chowdah!
Thanks go out to Kevin Murphy, whose idea the January Thaw Tour was; to Angeljean Chiaramida, who suggested the locale, itinerary, and cuisine; to both of them together for helping work the whole thing through; and to the Oakland Raiders for losing to the Pats and keeping our roads clear.
If you have friends in the club whom you think may not have heard about this, please give 'em a call to let them know what's going on.
And, although this is an AONE event, if you don't want to bring your Alfa out on Sunday, it's OK if you want to bring your Lesser Car. It's about Alfisti, not just about Alfas.
Directions: Glynn Motorsports is located at 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA. From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley, straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1, 1-2 miles and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since it's easy to miss.
Contact Dave Pratt at dave@dvpratt.com or 781-320-8208 with any questions. Hope to see lots of you this Sunday! It's been a while!
AONE All-Member Annual

Saturday, February 9
Things are shaping up! The plans are starting to jell for the annual AONE Winter Dinner Party thatll be held on Saturday, February 9! This seasons affair will again be held at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston, MA, the site of the last two years blowouts and several momentous AONE bashes of years gone by. Its a cozy, old, comfortable, wood-paneled, centrally located venueperfect for our gathering.

kick off the Official AONE Italian Cookbook at the Winter Party! Heres a little twist: At the last AONE Board of Directors meeting back in November, the idea of publishing an AONE Cookbook was discussed and heartily endorsed. So, when you bring your culinary contribution to the Winter Party, bring the recipe for it too! Well collect them and use them as the basis for compiling our Cookbook. This means that, when the Cookbook comes out, we party-goers will have actually had the opportunity to taste many of the recipes in it! Well collect and compile more recipes from AONE member over the next few months, with the goal of publishing the Cookbook in plenty of time for holiday giving at the end of the year, also advertising it and making it available to all Alfisti throughout the land. The idea of sharing our Italian recipes with our fellow Italian car club members, while raising some funds for our clubs coffers, should be a sure-fire hit! So bring along your gastronomic creation, bring along your recipe for it, and youll see it in print (with appropriate credit) in our upcoming Cookbook! |
Since everyone loved the format of our last couple of parties, weve decided again that the best way to get the best food for our soiree will beto bring our own food! So its pot luck once again! If you make a special dish (or can talk your significant other into making one for you), bring it along! This is an Italian car club, so Italian food is de rigueur, but it really doesnt matter. Entrees, salads, breads, dessertsanything goes! There will be a kitchen available to warm things up.
The club will be supplying soft drinks, but if you prefer something a little more bracing, feel free to bring your own. As always, there will be lots of great (and not-so-great) Alfa-oriented door prizes!
Anyway, we plan to kick things off at 6PM. Significant others are much more than welcomelast year, we had quite a few of the gentler gender present. Dress is casual. Entertainment (in addition to the way we tend to naturally entertain each other) is in the planning stages, but you can count on some Alfa-oriented funperhaps an interesting speaker or two, and some still and/or moving large-screen automotive visuals.
There will be no charge for members and their guestshey, youre bringing the food, right? Your club will be renting the hall, providing the soft drinks, and arranging for the entertainment. In the February issue of Velocissima, well have the final details and directions. Although not required, were asking you to help in our planning by either signing up online by clicking right here or by contacting AONE Director and event organizer Frank Maldari at 978-475-2846 or by email at mbellatrix@aol.com. This will let us tell the Tavern how many people to expect and help us figure out what kind of food is needed. Questions? Contact Frank!
The AONE Winter Party has become an institution, with over 55
revelers in attendance last year.
Dont miss out! ![]()
