BBQ at Glynn Motorsports - a Fitting, Fun Fall Finale

At first, it appeared as though the long streak of great weather we’d enjoyed whenever we held an event at Glynn Motorsports might have come to an end. It was overcast and a mist was falling, punctuated by an actual shower or two on the drive to Rowley on November 3.

The AONE Board of Directors got up a little early and held a meeting in the Glynn Motorsports conference room prior to the 10AM start of the affair. Several topics were discussed, including plans for the AONE Winter Party, and general plans for next year’s slate of activities.

The Board meeting lasted until around 10:30, and when it broke up there still weren’t too many people around yet. But it was dry and then, slowly and steadily, folks started arriving, in the usual assortment of Alfa vintages and models. By around noon, the parking lot was overflowing once again! The place is sprawling and it was hard to count, but it’s safe to say that there were well over 30 Alfisti in attendance.

The fact that it was noon may have had some significance, because that’s when the barbie got lit! For the first time (and probably not the last), we decided to hold a barbecue on the premises to complement the festivities. Barbecued marinated chicken tenders, Italian sausages, and hotdogs were served, along with rolls, salads, relishes, potato salad, soft drinks, and condiments. Many thanks go out to Tom Lesko, who planned and prepared our feast, as well as to Peter Walker, who supplied the coffee, donuts, bagels, and muffins that got us through the morning hours.

The day continued to get nicer, and by early afternoon the sun was actually shining. It was quite pleasant to be outside wandering amongst the lovely Alfas and interesting Alfisti (or was it the other way around?). Several folks brought various bits and pieces of Alfas to sell or swap, and a good deal of that sort of activity was observed. Paul Glynn (who named himself after Glynn Motorsports) and Michael Wrigley were there all day to talk technical, hobnob with the masses, and make sure that none of their tools and parts got stolen.

All in all, it was another fine and fun affair—lots of Alfas, lots of Alfa nuts, and lots of Alfa talk—a fitting finale to AONE’s 2001 season of events.   Tiny Quadrifoglio
