Monday is "race day", and a full slate of vintage race and production class sports car races was held. The feature of this years event was a recreation of the first Trans Am races held at Lime Rock in 66-71, featuring cars of that era driven by such pilotos as Sam Posey and Parnelli Jones. I caught some of the action in this race and it was a sight to see, with big-bore Camaros leading a pack of Shelby Mustangs, Cobras, Corvette Stingrays, and Mini Coopers, Volvo P1800s, and Alfa GTVs (or was that a GTA?). I was amazed at how the Mini was giving the big cars a run for their money.
Other races featured the Monoposto Classic for formula cars, historic production and sports racing machines, as well as pre-war and post-war (to 1960) cars in period-correct racing colors and trim (no cars that look like %#@ cereal boxes on this course!). Being at Lime Rock on Vintage Race Day is like sitting through the last 70 years of road racing, presented for your entertainment.
That being said, I would love to see more of us AONE members next year at the event. Steve Silverstein and his family and I were it, plus I ran into a guy from upstate New York who was a member. A shame, too, as there was so much to see and share andbonusif you drive your Italian Car there, you get to do three parade laps around the track in between the races. Add all the vendors and flea market dealers and you have a lot more than you can possibly take in during one three-day weekendbut you can give it your best.Click on the
