AONE Caravan to the Castle Hill Concours dElegance Sunday, September 23
If it aint broke, dont fix it!
After the success of last years outing (despite a rather drizzly day), AONE will
again be staking claim to an Alfa-only section on the lawn at the seventh annual Castle
Hill Concours dElegance in Ipswich, MA on Sunday, September 23. Were going to
get as many pre-1973 (their rules) Alfas as we can muster to form a parade from Glynn
Motorsports (only a few miles away). If we all drive in together, we all get to park
together, and this area will become our clubs gathering point for the event.
Were going to group up between 8:00 and 8:15 AM in the Glynn Motorsports parking
lot. From there, well form a caravan for the trip up to Castle Hill to get there
right around when the grounds open so that we can get our spot. (Last year, our caravan
leader set an up-tempo pace, where conditions allowed, so we had a little extra fun.)
Directions to Glynn Motorsports: From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley, straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1, 1-2 miles and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since its easy to miss. The address is 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA 01909.
For those
of you with 1973 and later Alfas, simply proceed directly to Castle Hill any time
youd like (earlier is better, as this is a popular event), park, take the shuttle
bus to the grounds, and meet up with the vintage Alfa types.
Directions to Castle Hill: Route I-95/Route 128 North to Exit 20A (Route 1A North). Follow 1A for 8 miles to Ipswich. Right on Route 133 East, 1.5 miles to Northgate Road. Left on Northgate, .5 miles to Argilla Road. Right on Argilla, 2.3 miles to gate and parking.
Well have our big AONE banner in the trees behind our vintage Alfa lineup, and there we can gather round, compare notes, talk Alfas, and recover from the overdose of automotive splendor to which well be subjected. The Vintage Sports Car Club of America is putting on this event, which runs from 9AM to 3PM, and is a fund raiser for The Trustees of Reservations, a member-supported nonprofit conservation organization that owns and cares for Castle Hill. Theres more info and photos on the web at www.castlehillconcours.com.
The Castle Hill Concours has become increasingly recognized as the "Pebble Beach of the East", and is really a dont-miss affair that you shouldnt let slip by. Hope to see you there!

The Great Yankee Candle Car Museum and Lost Brewery Tour
Saturday, October 13
This is just a "heads-up", since the
dates and details are sketchy, but heres the scoop: This is the annual(?) Kevin
Murphy fall tour, and will start off in Massachusetts near the intersection of Route 2 and
I-495, in the parking lot of a large hotel and conference center (details to follow). Show
up for registration ($5 per car) at 10AM. The first car out is at 11AM, but we may just
leave in tour formation instead, so dont be later than 10:45! We will cruise over
back roads to the Yankee Candle Car Museum and Candle Factory in South Deerfield, MA
where, after viewing the terrific automotive exhibits, we will cross the street to check
out the candle factory (quite a take, if you havent done it before) and for lunch at
the restaurant (just order from the menu). Afterward, well do some more fall
touring, and seek out the lost Berkshire Brewery for a sampling of its well-respected
Steel Rail Pale Ale. There will be more miles of smiles on this tour and great New England
fall colors, so top up the petrol and join us . This is a rain-or-shine event (total
monsoons excluded), so check this web site for any last-minute updates.
