The day dawned bright and clear. Well, somewhere on the planet the day must have dawned bright and clear, but it wasnt anywhere in the environs of Brookline, MA. Soggy and dreary are more apt descriptors
Nonetheless, the stalwart among us began drifting onto the grounds of the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation to take part in the annual Italian Car Day concours. Sure, the weather forecast thinned the crowds somewhat, but there were still over 120 Italian masterpieces to appreciate, including about thirty of our illustrious marque.
As it turned out, the forecast was wrong (what a shock!) and the day actually dried out as it progressed, with the sun actually poking through by the time things began to break up. It never pays to listen to the weather when it comes to Alfa eventsjust show up!
AONE again erected its (borrowed) canopy in the midst of the Alfa action. We set up a table offering membership to non-AONE members, as well as our assortment of quality AONE merchandise direct from the Club Store warehouses. We had our entire inventory of AONE umbrellas on hand, but unfortunately (???) it didnt rain. Without planning it before she got there, Maura Rand spent a large part of the day manning (womanizing? No, thats not right...) our booth, answering and redirecting questions and selling our paraphernalia, thereby allowing your Editor to, uh, conduct other club business. Thanks, Maura!
AONE Director Jim Miga, an Italian Car Day Committee member, wishes to thank all of the AONE members who helped make the day a success as judges for the concours competition. You know who you are!
As always, there was a wide and interesting assortment of Alfas on display. There are always a few new ones every year, and its also interesting to see the improvements and restorationssometimes majorthat owners make to their Alfas over the years. The judges job is never an easy one! Congratulations go out to all of the winners! Of course, at Italian Car Day, there are never any losers...Class C: Early Spiders (105)
