High Times In Rowley

by Dave Pratt

This is uncanny. It’s hard to say how he does it. But every time Paul Glynn hosts one of his Tech Session / Swap Meet events, the weather turns unimaginably delightful and always better than expected. Even the night before the April 21 event, the weather geeks were predicting showers.

But Saturday dawned dry, and the day just kept improving. The Alfas started arriving, virtually all of the Spiders with their tops down. When all was said and done, well over 40 Alfas and their Alfisti made their appearances—it was hard to tell, since people kept coming and going. It was easily another record-setting Tech Session turnout!

The Tech Session topic? Well, we got a lot of responses from our members regarding what they’d like the topic to be. But as they came in, it got pretty amusing, since literally no two were alike! Such is the diversity of our Alfa interests. So Paul agreed to hold a general Alfa question-and-answer session. What really happened was that Paul and Mike Wrigley wandered around and hung out with the rest of us Alfa nuts, answering whatever questions and discussing whatever topics came up, and so it turned into kind of a roving tech session. Worked quite well!

Coffee, juice, donuts, muffins, and bagels were all supplied by the club (thanks to Brian Shorey for hauling all the stuff in), and Bill Anderson brought some home-made biscotti—yum!

Early in the day, the (lame duck) Board of Directors met in the Glynn Motorsports conference room to map out plans for the events that we’ll be holding throughout the rest of the year. Also discussed was our proposition to host the AROC National Convention, probably in 2004. (Wouldn’t that be fun!)

This event marked the debut of the new Official AONE polo shirts. They were very well received, and over 30 of them were sold! There were also a lot of various Alfa parts and Alfabilia on display in the parking lot, and much of it actually changed hands.

Once again, with our AONE banners festooned across the Glynn Motorsports entrance, at least one more Alfa Romeo owner, unaware of our club’s or Glynn Motorsports’s existence, happened to by driving by and pulled in to see what was going on. Another member among our ranks!

But mainly, it was a day when we Alfisti got to wander around amidst a large assortment of models and colors of the cars we love, chat with our fellow Alfa cuckoos, relish the agreeable weather, share the Alfa knowledge that we have, and just generally enjoy ourselves.   Tiny Quadrifoglio
