Lime
Rock Park Vintage Festival
September 1-4!
We haven't been giving it much press this year in Velocissima, because we hadn't heard too many
details, but Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival is happening this weekend, September 1-4!
It's a weekend full of vintage sports car racing on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, with a
terrific concours and classic car auction on Sunday. It all takes place at beautiful Lime
Rock Park in northwestern Connecticut and, like our event at NHIS, it's very laid-back and
you're free to roam and wander among all the wonderful macchine and pick out your favorite
pastoral settings from which to view the racing action.
For those AROC members attending and would like to get together, we'll be parked up by the
"West Bend". It's the spot where we all met last year. Immediately after you
cross the bridge, take the first right into the field (parking lot) and head toward the
corner.
"The Vintage Festival will bring the best of both worlds in vintage racing together as HSR teams up with the Vintage Sports Car Club of America this Labor Day weekend. VSCCA classes, which are all from the pre-1960 eras, include Pre-war, Production and Sports Racers.
Tickets for the Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival are on sale now. Save $20 with the purchase of a weekend SuperTicket or take advantage of discounts on individual day tickets by ordering your Vintage Festival tickets in advance. Just call 1-800-RACE-LRP or click on Track Information, then Ticket Outlets for the location of a Lime Rock ticket outlet near you.
The four-day weekend begins with two practice sessions for all nine classes on Friday. An HSR Klub Sport Porsche Challenge race for Porsche 356s, 911s and 914s also will also held on Friday.
Saturday includes qualifying sessions and races for both HSR and the VSCC along with a Thundersports Cup race. Labor Day is race day with three 1-hour races for HSR's Rolex Rolex Endurance Challenge series (Vintage, Historic and Classic GT) and sprint races for all nine HSR and VSCCA groups.
The HSR's ThunderSports group includes IMSA GTP and GTP Lights prototypes, original and center-seat Can-Am cars, FIA Championship and 2-liter sports racers. HSR events often draw Porsche 935s and 962s, March, Nissan and Spice GTPs, Ferrari 512s, Lola T70s and 2-liter Chevrons."

Sunday, September 24
OK, heres the
scoop! AONE will be commandeering an Alfa-only section of the lawn at the
sixth annual Castle Hill Concours dElegance in Ipswich, MA on Sunday, September 24.
Were going to get as many pre-1973 (their rules) Alfas as we can
muster to form a parade from Glynn Motorsports (only a few miles away). If we all drive in
together, we all get to park together, and this area will become our clubs gathering
point for the event. Were going to group up between 8:00 and 8:15 AM
in the Glynn Motorsports parking lot. From there, well form a caravan for the trip
up to Castle Hill to get there right around when the grounds open so that we can get our
spot.
Directions to Glynn Motorsports: From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley, straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1, 1-2 miles and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since its easy to miss. The address is 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA 01909.
For those of you with 1973 and later Alfas, simply proceed directly to Castle Hill any time youd like (earlier is better, as this is a popular event), park, take the shuttle bus to the grounds, and meet up with the vintage Alfa types.
Directions to Castle Hill: Route I-95/Route 128 North to Exit 20A (Route 1A North). Follow 1A for 8 miles to Ipswich. Right on Route 133 East, 1.5 miles to Northgate Road. Left on Northgate, .5 miles to Argilla Road. Right on Argilla, 2.3 miles to gate and parking.
Snacks and refreshments will be supplied by the club, and we can gather round, compare notes, talk Alfas, and recover from the overdose of automotive splendor to which well be subjected. Just look for the big AONE banner and come join the fun!
The Vintage Sports Car Club of America is putting on this, the Sixth Annual Castle Hill Concours dElegance, from 9AM to 3PM. The event is cosponsored by Classic Automobile Register magazine and is a fund raiser for The Trustees of Reservations, a Massachusetts member-supported nonprofit conservation organization which owns and cares for Castle Hill. Theres more info on the Castle Hill web site.
The Castle Hill Concours is an elegant event in an elegant setting that attracts lots of elegant cars. Itll be fun to attend along with all of your elegant Alfa buddies! See you there!
The Great Wachusett Hillclimb and Brewery Tour
Saturday, October 14
Mark
your calendars for this Falls AONE tour to Wachusett Mountain and
the nearby Wachusett Brewery in Westminster, Massachusetts. Fall colors will be sure to
add the perfect background for this breathtaking ride to the top of the mountain, where
the fresh air will provoke the appetite and warm the spirit.
As with last years winery tour, we will invite along the folks from New England Triumphs to add an interesting accent to the event (just dont let em pass you!) and we will have plenty of photo opportunities.
We will start the day off by meeting at the bottom of Wachusett Mountain ("Mountain Road") at 10:30AM and then caravan to the top to take in the breathtaking views. Afterward, we will descend the mountain (check those brake pads now) for a drive to a yet-to-be-determined setting for lunch.
From there, we will drive to the home of the Wachusett Brewery, where we will receive a tour of the brewing facilities, sample a draft (Ill take the Oktoberfest, please) and have a chance to purchase the companys products (they have T-shirts!) before leaving.
On the way back, we may have something of interest for
those of you who like mazes. More details, and detailed directions to the mountain, will
appear in next months issue of Velocissima. It isnt too early to let me know if you are coming with us,
so email me (Kevin
Murphy) or call me at 508-820-7759 (days) or 508-879-1881(evenings). See you
October 14! (By the way, this is not Columbus Day weekend!) ![]()
