The Sun Shines On Alfa
- Part 2

A report from the COMSCC time trials at Watkins Glen

by Stephan de Pénasse

Four Alfa GTV-2000s and one Milano were present at the COMSCC time trial event at Watkins Glen on July 19-20. Eliot Shanabrook (AONE), Bill Shields (AROC-PA), Bob Brady (AROC-PA) and Stephan de Pénasse (AONE) set up camp under the Winston Cup billboard. Bill provided the flag, and the "Alfa Compound" had been set. Ralph Humburg (VT) had rented a garage for his SPB (Street Prepared B) class Milano. Bill, Bob and Eliot were in the ST3 (Street Stock 3) class and Stephan in the SSB (Showroom Stock B) class. Bill, Bob and Stephan were rookies for this event.

All rookies passed with good results on the Wednesday (July 19) sessions and moved on to Thursday’s practice and qualifying. All made significantly better results on Thursday with the track better memorized (3.45 miles with about 11 curves, several of them "blinders").

The results:

This fast track was a lot of fun and the COMSCC runs an exceptionally safe and very instructional event. Hats off to COMSCC and Avanti la Scuderia ALFA with another win this month with Eliot! The sun is still shining in July!
