AONE Gathering
at the
New Hampshire Vintage Celebration

Saturday, August 5th

Hello, sports fans - it’s time to take in a little vintage racing! August 2-6 are the dates for this year’s 10th Annual New Hampshire Vintage Celebration, a weekend of Vintage Sports Car Racing at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon. Friday through Sunday, vintage racing sports cars and motorcycles take to the 1.6 mile road circuit.

 NHIS

Be sure to join your fellow AONE Alfisti to watch the races, admire the cars, and generally frolic and cavort on Saturday, the 5th! Club member Paul Glynn will be there racing his Giulietta, and we must cheer him on! Paul will be based around Kevin Fitzgerald’s enclosed race car trailer (with a canopy and a "viewing stand" on the roof), which will serve as the focal point of our club gathering.

So get an early start Saturday, drive up to Louden, buy your infield tickets ($20), and look for the Glynn Motorsports setup and our Alfa banners in the pit/infield area! From there, you can roam around among the beautiful vintage racers and try out lots of different vantage points to watch the racing action. AONE will be providing some refreshments and there is a restaurant at the track. For more info, check out the NHIS web site, or contact Tom Lesko via email or at 781-749-9132. And check back to these pages for late-breaking news!

Directions: NHIS is located in Loudon, NH on Rt.106, approximately 10 miles north of Concord, NH. From the south, take I-93 to exit 15E (I-393). Take Exit #3. Turn onto Rt. 106 North. NHIS will be 10 miles north on the right. From the North, take I-93 to the Tilton Exit #20 to Rt. 140 through Belmont to Rt. 106 South. Follow Rt. 106 South to the Speedway which is approximately 8 miles.

Not convinced?  Click here to check out the report and photos from last year's gathering!   Last year, around 15 AONE members showed up for this event and had a great time! They’ll all be back, and why don’t you join us? Don’t miss out - this is fun stuff!

Sunday, September 24

Castle HillOK, here’s the scoop! AONE will be commandeering an Alfa-only section of the lawn at the sixth annual Castle Hill Concours d’Elegance in Ipswich, MA on Sunday, September 24. We’re going to get as many pre-1973 (their rules) Alfas as we can muster to form a parade from Glynn Motorsports (only a few miles away). If we all drive in together, we all get to park together, and this area will become our club’s gathering point for the event. We’re going to group up between 8:00 and 8:15 AM in the Glynn Motorsports parking lot. From there, we’ll form a caravan for the trip up to Castle Hill to get there right around when the grounds open so that we can get our spot.

Directions to Glynn Motorsports: From I-95 take Route 133 East toward Rowley, straight through a traffic light crossing Route 1, 1-2 miles and turn right at the sign for Glynn Motorsports. Proceed warily as you get close, since it’s easy to miss. The address is 120 Rear Haverhill Street, Rowley, MA 01909.

For those of you with 1973 and later Alfas, simply proceed directly to Castle Hill any time you’d like (earlier is better, as this is a popular event), park, take the shuttle bus to the grounds, and meet up with the vintage Alfa types.

Directions to Castle Hill: Route I-95/Route 128 North to Exit 20A (Route 1A North). Follow 1A for 8 miles to Ipswich. Right on Route 133 East, 1.5 miles to Northgate Road. Left on Northgate, .5 miles to Argilla Road. Right on Argilla, 2.3 miles to gate and parking.

Snacks and refreshments will be supplied by the club, and we can gather ‘round, compare notes, talk Alfas, and recover from the overdose of automotive splendor to which we’ll be subjected. Just look for the big AONE banner and come join the fun!

The Vintage Sports Car Club of America is putting on this, the Sixth Annual Castle Hill Concours d’Elegance, from 9AM to 3PM. The event is cosponsored by Classic Automobile Register magazine and is a fund raiser for The Trustees of Reservations, a Massachusetts member-supported nonprofit conservation organization which owns and cares for Castle Hill. There’s more info on the Castle Hill web site.

The Castle Hill Concours is an elegant event in an elegant setting that attracts lots of elegant cars. It’ll be fun to attend along with all of your elegant Alfa buddies! See you there!

new.gif (12646 bytes)The Great Wachusett Hillclimb and Brewery Tour

Saturday, October 14

Wachusett BreweryMark your calendars for this Fall’s AONE tour to Wachusett Mountain and the nearby Wachusett Brewery in Westminster, Massachusetts. Fall colors will be sure to add the perfect background for this breathtaking ride to the top of the mountain, where the fresh air will provoke the appetite and warm the spirit.

As with last year’s winery tour, we will invite along the folks from New England Triumphs to add an interesting accent to the event (just don’t let ‘em pass you!) and we will have plenty of photo opportunities.

We will start the day off by meeting at the bottom of the Wachusett Mountain ("Mountain Road") at 10:30AM and then caravan to the top to take in the breathtaking views. Afterward, we will descend the mountain (check those brake pads now) for a short drive over to the Old Mill Restaurant, where we have our own dining room for lunch (moderately priced). If you have never been to this restaurant before, you have a real treat in store, and the grounds are also a feast for the eyes.

Finally, we will leave the Old Mill and drive a very short distance to the home of the Wachusett Brewery, where we will receive a tour of the brewing facilities, sample a draft (I’ll take the Oktoberfest, please) and even be able to purchase the company’s products (they have T-shirts!) before leaving.

On the way back, we may have something of interest for those of you who like mazes. More details, and detailed directions to the mountain, will appear in next month’s issue of Velocissima. It isn’t too early to let me know if you are coming with us, so email me (Kevin Murphy) or call me at 508-820-7759 (days) or 508-879-1881(evenings). See you October 14! (By the way, this is not Columbus Day weekend!)
