A few years have gone by since we last saw AONE’s founding father, Fred Di Matteo. I thought this would be a good opportunity to bring the club up to date as to what Fred and Anna are up to and how they are doing.
Fred, as many of you expect, is still tirelessly involved with Alfas, although on the Internet Alfa Digest and not as directly with AONE. Fred hasn’t changed much, just put on a few more years. He is active with a fellow named Nunzio, a proprietor of an Alfa shop in Fort Myers. Fred has been turning the wrench on his cars as needed and offering his guidance to many an Alfisti in Florida or from wherever a distress call may come.
One thing that has changed is that Anna has advanced Alzheimer’s. This has put a huge demand on Fred, and they now reside in an assisted living apartment, while waiting to sell their home. As of late, Anna is now in a nursing home, as a recent medical setback requires more care than Fred can provide. Fred is dearly devoted to Anna, and his zeal for Alfas clearly pales in comparison to his love for his wife of many years, and that says a lot. While Fred remains ready, willing, and able to respond to tech questions, please keep this in mind when you call.
When we think of all things Alfa, let’s not forget who was the driving force behind our club locally and nationally for many years. Fred and Anna are those people. Please keep them in your prayers!
