Autocross, Anyone?

Saturday, June 3

The Bay State Corvette Club (BSCC) will be holding an autocross at Bose in Framingham on Saturday, June 3rd. AONE Director Steve Silverstein ran his Milano there last year, had a great time, and contacted the BSCC about having us join them, which was very well-received.

There'll be a prize for the fastest Italian car, but realistically the whole point is to have fun!  Here are the details:

Schedule:

8:00-8:30     Driver Registration/Tech inspection
8:30-9:30     Course Description/ Walkthrough
10:00-12:00 Timed Runs
12:00-1:00   Lunch
1:00-3:00     Timed Runs
3:00              Results

Pizza and Soda are provided for the drivers; spectators pay $3.

Cost for running: $25 at the track, or $20 if pre-registered (call Ken Smith at 508-478-2669 for registration details). Limited to 50 cars; expect 5-6 runs.

For reference, the Bose Corporate Center is on the top of the mountain behind the Sheraton Tara.

Emissions Testing
Tech Session &
Italian Luncheon

Sunday, June 11

This is your chance to learn all about the new Massachusetts emission testing program and how it affects your Alfa! (Other New England states have similar programs, and the ones that don’t eventually will, thanks to Federal and local environmental concerns.) AONE member Tom Letourneau is an official with the Rhode Island emissions testing program (Rhode Island uses the same basic equipment as Massachusetts), and has graciously offered to set up a demonstration and give a talk exclusively for our club!

We’ll gather at Mel’s Sunoco station, a RI inspection station just over the Massachusetts line in Pawtucket (right on the South Attleboro line off of route I-95), where the demo will start at 12:00 noon sharp! Tom will run one of our Alfas through the procedure (both a dyno test and a two-speed idle), explain what’s going on, and answer any questions we might have. This is a great opportunity to learn what emissions testing entails so that you’ll know what you’re dealing with as your Alfa, uh, matures!

Then, at 2:00 PM, we’ll repair to Mama Spumoni’s, an excellent yet inexpensive Italian eatery directly across the street for a little lunch and socializing.

You can attend the Tech Session at noon, show up for lunch at 2:00, or (the best bet) do both! Because of space limitations, please contact Tom Letourneau before June 6 to let him know your plans. You can reach him via email, by phone at 401-334-3315, or drop him a note at 24 Old Reservoir Road, Cumberland, RI 02864-1633.

Directions:

Coming from either North or South on route I-95, get off at Exit 2A, "Route 1A - Newport Avenue". Head south on Route 1A toward Pawtucket, RI. You will cross over the bridge that transverses the Providence to Boston railroad tracks, and pass the large South Attleboro Home Depot complex/plaza on your left. Park at Mama Spumoni’s on the left and walk diagonally across the street to the Sunoco station.
