Thanks to some gorgeous top-down weather for an early November day, and to the last-minute announcement of the presence of three (count em, three!) classic racing Alfas for us to scrutinize, the Tech Session / Swap Meet held at Glynn Motorsports on November 6 was the largest one ever! We literally overflowed the parking lot into the surrounding fields!
There were a lot of things going on this fine day, but a highlight was surely the appearance of the three Alfa race cars - a TZ-1, TZ-2, and Tipo 33 - all red, and all parked in a row in front of Paul Glynns shop. Rarely does one get an opportunity to see these three important models together in the same venue, and never at an event that allowed such unfettered and leisurely access to the cars. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the two modest AONE members who graciously made their three wonderful cars available for us to admire. The owner of the TZs requested that pics of his cars not be posted on the Internet, a reasonable request that we respect, but they're available in the print version of Velocissima. To compensate, we've included a few extra shots of the Tipo 33 here on the web site.
Many thanks once again go to Paul Glynn and his able staff for hosting the affair and for arranging the special race car treat for us. And thanks also to Brian Shorey for scheduling the event and supplying the coffee and bagels.
By the way, if you have an email address and are not registered with our AONE Club Member Email Registry, this event was the perfect example of why you should register. We learned of the arrival of the three fantastic racing Alfas after the last issue of Velocissima went to press, but we were able to notify everyone in the Registry in plenty of time for the event. Its easy to register - just send an email to webmaster@velocissima.com and ask to be added to the list!

was shipped to England immediately after our event and now resides there under the auspices of renowned Alfa restorer Paul Grist. |

The engine bay of the Tipo

Another
view of the Tipo 33 engine bay. This car is now headed for Europe, likely to never be seen on these shores again! |

A view from the rear of the
packed parking lot, with Alfas pretty much strewn everywhere. Lots of trunks were open with various Alfa goodies offered up for sale. |

Paul demonstrates his
phenomenal lower-arm strength by supporting an Alfa 105 rear end on the tips of his fingers (while Brian Shorey casually begins disassembly) during the days Tech Session, which featured the rebuilding of a limited slip differential. |

Your AONE Board of
Directors took advantage of the afternoon and held a meeting in the Glynn Motorsports conference room. A lot of things were discussed and planned, one being the upcoming Winter Party. Since most of the attendees either had their backs to the camera, were behind someone else, or had coffee cups in front of their faces in the photo, we wont bother identifying them. But get this: Your President, all eight Board Members, and Treasurer were all present! Ten out of ten! Think maybe that this club is starting to cook? |
