Wine Tour

Saturday, October 2 was a bright, beautiful fall day and it found a number of colorful Alfas and (what?!) Triumph sports cars gathering at the parking lot of Papa Razzi’s restaurant on Route 2 in Concord. At 10:10AM, I, your intrepid tourmaster, mounted my trusty Spider and gave the arm signal to fourteen other cars that it was time for our proud caravan to proceed down Route 2 toward the Nashoba Valley Winery. A few minutes later, after an energetic push from friend Bob Lang of the New England Triumph club, my engine popped into life and we proceeded as planned (it turns out that I had a broken starter wire that decided it was time to manifest its presence). Gee, do I have an understanding wife! Back to the tour: Once on the road, we who were able toured top-down to our destination, where we found several other Alfas and Triumphs already on the grounds.

In all, 29 cars of either stripe (plus one pickup truck, of neither stripe) and 48 (maybe 50 - it was getting pretty crowded) drivers and their mates, cohorts, etc. made the trip. We were taken on the tour by a very knowledgable guide who explained to us in great and delicious detail how the various fruit wines produced at the winery were derived (peaches, apples, pears, berries — so healthy!) and bottled for our enjoyment. During and after the tour, we were treated to samples of the various types of wine, after which we could purchase to our hearts content at the winery’s store. Before breaking up to go our various ways (like lunch), we held a raffle of three bottles of Nashoba’s best and we had a few happy winners, including Tim Lentz and his very nice wife Elise. Tim is an Alfa-Digester for those of you on the ‘net, and has set up the
’71-74 Alfa Spider web site. He and Elise are driving around the country in an RV, and our good Editor was kind enough to equip them with his yellow ’74 Spider for the day of the tour.

This event was great fun, and I had a good time seeing the Triumphs as well as the Alfas turn out for it. Next year’s grape tour - who knows? Stay tuned.

[Many thanks to Kevin for organizing such a fine event and scheduling such magnificent weather! -Ed.]

Papa Razzi's The day begins with an assemblage of Alfas
(with a few Triumphs thrown in) at Papa Razzi’s
restaurant, in preparation for our motor tour
out Route 2 to the winery.
On The Road Alfas for as far as the eye can see! It was a
beautiful day and all of the Spider tops were
down. Needless to say, our caravan turned
a lot of heads along the way.
Nashoba Parking Lot We gathered our cars in a field to the side of
the winery. They had a tough time tearing us
away from our loved ones to actually go take
the winery tour.
GTV Door This club member gets points for attending
the event without a complete, running Alfa, but
he did have a GTV door roped into the bed of
his pickup!
Winery Tour Club members get a tour of the operation, learn
a little more about the process of winemaking,
and get to sample some of Nashoba’s tasty
fruit wines.
Winery Building This building housed the winery’s crushing,
fermentation and storage equipment. Very
picturesque (and the building looks kind of
nice too).
A Little Push As event organizer Kevin Murphy was departing,
several AONE members attempt to give him a
big pat on the back. Yes, we’re sure that’s what
this was.
The Rig Florida Alfisti Tim and Elise Lentz, in the middle
of their year-long tour of the USA in "The Rig"
(pictured), borrowed a local Spider and joined
us on the tour!
