My wife Vi spent the entire month of May in Florence, ostensibly to take an art course, and I was able to join her for the last week and a half. Thats the good news - the bad news is that I got there too late to take in the annual Mille Miglia road race, which took place May 6-8 this year. But Vi (bless her) agreed to go out and take pictures of the event as the majestic vehicles passed through Florence on Saturday, May 8. Turns out that she loved it! They close off the streets along the route, and in the city the cars go by slow enough to get a good look. (Out in the countryside, they let em loose.) Her criteria for taking pictures were 1) Alfa Romeos (bless her), and 2) cars that she thought were pretty. Below you'll find some of the more interesting shots (the Alfa Romeos, of course - well, OK, one Bugatti). Click on the thumbnails for a larger view. Ill definitely check the dates of Mille Miglia before I plan my next trip to Italy ...
